BMW E41 2998cc V10

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Type V10-90°
Displacement 2,998.5 cc
Bore 98 mm
Stroke 39.75 mm
Cylinder spacing 102 mm
Bank offset 18mm
Engine length 575.0 mm
Engine width 517.0 mm
Engine height 290.0 mm
Weight 82 kg
Centre of gravity height 110 mm
Max. output >950 PS
Max. torque 360 Nm
Max. engine speed 19,800 rpm
No of valves 40
Intake valves 41,50 mm, titanium
Exhaust valves 34.40 mm titanium

Just amazing, 950 Hp and 82 kg? Note the bore vs cylinder spacing!

Does anyone have date on the cooling requirement in comparison to the engine of other manufacturers?

BMW always gave the perception that they were more thirsty and required more cooling. Williams cars always had a larger radiator and plumbing requirement which did compromise the packaging.

Hats off to BMW irrespective of this for their effort, I always felt Williams should have kept them happier and that the German driver should not have been mandatory.

Who really has the most powerful engine now?
I´ve been told it´s the Mercedes engine..

BMW engine had 741hp judging from the diagrams. I wish we would see more free-er(?) engine regulations for the new turbo-era so manufacturers really can show their excellence instead of these tight regulations we have now with a fixed weight and centre of gravity.
I have always heard that the BMW engine was 1000hp in Monza spec.

1.000bhp from the V8?
Sounds abit outlandish to squeeze out 259bhp just like that when it´s 741 "stock"

Pretty sure he is talking about the final no rev limit v10 that was 950 stock, then wound out to 1000 for Monza.

Looks like it depends on how much life you want out of it.

752hp went to 741hp while the engine life improved.

1000 bhp from the old V10's sounds more like it. Toyota spent a bit of time after the V10 era trying to hit 1000bhp...no one ever knows if BMW actually managed it??

I don't suppose anyone would know the valve timings for this engine would they?
