Going there for 2013 would not be smart if the engine regs change that year. We all know that Mclaren has always been pretty good with reg changes, car is almost always top 3.

He would be putting all his faith in Renault assuming Red Bull sticks with them. If they make a crap engine, the car will be slow. At least right now the engine is not a deciding factor as all three big engines can compete for wins.

The engine regs would mean signing a contract before you've even heard a 1.6 fire up. At best a lateral move with the unknowns for 2013.

I am really looking forward to see Lewis driving for RBR. It will be fantastic to see how he match up against Vettel on the same machine.

If Lewis leave for RBR, which British driver can Mclaren find to replace him? Assuming they still believe in a all british driver line up

DiResta at McLaren would be awesome.

Reanualt - To me they sound the most bullish when it comes to the new 4 cylinder regulations as they were saying that they would pull out of F1 if the regulations are not in place by 2013. Even judging by comments from Williams, Virgin and Lotus, their new engines look like the "hot stuff" that all the teams want for 2013.

Re: Hamilton to Red Bull?

If popular belief is true, and Hamilton goes to Red Bull in 2013, it would suggest that Webber will be tied to a one year deal next year, most probably his last year.

If other rumors are true, Schumacher and Rosberg will be at Mercedes untill 2017 at the earliest. Button is seeking to gain a contract at McLaren untill he is 40, when he says he will quit F1 and go into other areas of motorsport (Le Mans???)

Vettel is contracted to 2016 now at Red Bull. Alonso is on a simmilarly long term deal at Ferrari, Massa till 2012, when its likley that Perez or Bianchi, maybes Kobiyashai will take that seat, posibly Kubica if he ever returns.

If Kubica returns, id expect him to stay at Renault untill 2012 at the earliest. Replacing Heidfeid is the logical step for that team. Also if the rumors are true, the French GP will be returning, and there is now rumors of state help for that GP as well, and the state want to help a team, posibly buy back Renault, and place a top French young driver in the seat occupied by Petrov, so posibly Bianchi or Grosjean here.

If McLaren were to put a British driver in Hamiltons seat, id say they look no futher than their Gearbox customer, Force India; Id recon Di Resta would be a good #2 for Button.

That leaves the 2013 grid to look like this,;

Red Bull-Renault: Vettel/Hamilton
McLaren-Mercedes: Button/Di Resta
Ferrari: Alonso/Perez *OR* Kobiyashai
Mercedes GP: Schumacher/Rosberg
Renault: Kubica/Bianchai *OR* Grosjean
Sauber-Ferrari: Massa/Perez *OR* Kobiyashai *OR* Bianchi
Toro Rosso-Ferrari: Buemi/Riccardo
Force India-Mercedes: Sutil *OR* Heidfeld/Hulkenberg
Williams-Renault: Heidfeld *OR* Sutil/Maldanado
Team Lotus-Renault: Kovalinen/Chandhok *OR* Valsecchi
Hispania-Ferarri: Liuzzi/Alguersauri
Virgin-Mercedes: Glock *OR* D'Ambrosio/Paffett

Whitch would mean the grid would also loose Cosworth if the engine regs go to I4s, but i think that the V8s will stay, i just have a feeling they will stay!!!

The prophesy is fullfilling... Alonso missed out being fired though. Lets hope the RBR move doesn't result in Hamilton's death.

I'm not sure Di Resta will be available to go to McLaren. I think Mercedes Benz has first rights to Di Resta's service after his Force India contract expires. But maybe I'm wrong. Hopefully Ross Brawn and Bob Bell will have a Championship-contending car by 2012 or 2013. Rosberg and Di Resta at Mercedes GP sounds very promising.

No way Horner will take the risk of having both Vettel and Hamilton. It has the potential of polarising and wrecking the team like Prost and Senna did at McLaren. Vettel is Horner's golden boy, much like Hamilton is at McLaren. Hamilton knows this and he will not go to Red Bull unless he gets iron-clad guarantee for equal treatment from Horner. But we all know how fickle these agreements can be.

I think what will happen is that Hamilton will sign a one year contract with McLaren once his current contract expires at the end of 2012. But this will be dependent on how well McLaren goes in 2012 relative to Red Bull and whether he sees any potential for McLaren to win in 2013 under the new regulations. Even if things don't work out, Hamilton can jump to another team in 2014.

If Vettel is self confident then he should have no fears of Hamilton coming in.

This could be good, if they lose Webber they need someone to take his place who will continue crashing the car (for R&D of course, optimizing crash structures & chassis rigidity).

And if this happens, I say Kobayashi to McLaren.

Actually they should just get Dirk Nowitzki in the seat (the wheelbases are already long these days). These damn Germans need to cut the rest of the world some slack.
