Yep. They both gave up careers as concert pianists to become F1 drivers.

Stirling Moss finished 1st but did not need any favours.

Peter Collins gave up his car so that fangio could continue and win the championship after his car suffered a broken steering arm.

Yes he did. Page 613 0f the October 1956 edition of Motor Sport depicts the actual incident to which I refer.

The Collins car relinquishment incident is wholly unconnected to my question.

Luigi Piotti used his car to push Stirling Moss’s car back to the pits after Moss ran out of fuel with 5 laps to go.

Excellent! That's the answer. I've also found a pic of the moment here. Imagine how the FIA would handle a similar occurrence today! The words apoplectic and fit come to mind!

I don't think drivers are even allowed to hitch a ride on the slow down lap now!

What was unusual about David Coulthard's race wear in the 1996 Monaco GP?

Oh for the love of all that is Holy! This isn't the guess the circuit thread. At least let the question cool down first!

Coulthard's helmet was misting badly and he couldn't see so he asked Schumacher for his spare. Incidently, it was the helmet that Schumacher wore in his drive to 3rd place in Brazil.

Monaco 1996 was one of my favourite races; I always love crazy events that generate unexpected results :)

Ok, next up : Which former F1 driver couldn't raise the sponsorship to secure a seat on the grid, so chose the unusual step of setting himself up as a one-man publicly traded company and selling shares in his potential future earnings?

Yes, that would be a Mr Wilson :)

No, I didn't buy any shares : I was based in Bristol back then, so didn't have any "home town" affiliation ...
