TOP 10 on a single lap shoot out!!!

Post

The way they have the qualifying is exciting but i think it could be more exciting! I've heard too often this year about racers just burning fuel for 10 minutes and then qualifying with 5 minutes to go. As well, complaints of traffic! So....

For the top 10 guys in the final session...run them single with one qualifying lap...like last year!

This way, when IT IS the top 10 serious qualifiers, drivers can't complaing about traffic. AND...no fuel changes from the previous session to the last session. IF they think they're going to make it into the top 10 they have the think about fuel loads before the session.

Hmmmm...no? anyone?

Last year that method took 60 minutes for 20 cars so I don't see how you could fit 10 cars into 15 minutes with any of them but first one out having a clear circut :?

They have that it the Aussie V8 Supercars, and it works well. Everyone has normal qualifying and the top 10 have a shoot out, it's normally really exciting :D

or then an other idea i had, what about the session remaining the same but with the exception of no tyre changes during the session(so you could change tyres before and then again after the session) this would basically be the same thing, but would limit the traffic because technically everyone has one max two fast laps
four rings to rule them all

i like both last year and this years but this year quali is more on the driver skill to set blisteringly hot laps and also do this around traffic. it gets my heart going just watching it.

i just like it when they fight for pole on qfying fuel levels and get to fill up the car at the end of qfying.. and let everyone guess the fuel loads.. its so much more interesting.. FASTEST CAR SHOULD BE POLE.. not the lightest fuel strategy

It's already complicated enough, my brain hurts just dealing with the current format. And to be honest, I like how there's an element of luck, how a driver can still get stuck behind traffic. But the first ten minutes of the third qualifying session is boring, because all ten are just out there circulating, burning gas. I'd like a little tweak of the rules, banning pit stops in the last session. And ignoring the in lap and out lap. force them to run 105% instead of 110% of minimum lap times. That would force them to run harder, and maybe force the serious runs earlier in the session.

You want excitement? Have the two SA cars added to the final field. They would throw a scare into everyone, you never know when one of them would block, or cause a safety car at the worse time. That way, when the track is opened for the last session, all the serious cars would be lined up at the pit exit, and blast out, hoping to put in a quick time immediately before some weird adventure was caused by an SA driver.

Sorry Dave, I was refering to the idea of single lap running, not your idea. I should have made that clear.

No prob, I thought you were referring to the first ten minutes of the final qualifying session, when absolutely nothing happens. But watching a lone car just run around chasing the clock is just as boring. It has drama, but it's soooooo boring.

I would suggest to let them have just the fuel they need to qualify. No more "qualifying conference" free appearances. Or penalize the qualifying times according to weight (naaaah... too confusing!).

I was sooooo proud of Montoya: the guy had an astonishing pole record for his first two years. He did it while you had to do the perfect lap with fumes, all cars equalized. Nowadays he seems just another qualifier... some people thinks that Trulli is better. Fools! :D
