Amazingly, this is also the first year that Hamilton has not featured on the podium of any street circuit
It's always been a bit of a hobby of mine, just started putting it in writing now, but I do plan on doing this every race. I'll try and come up with extra trivia like that (1st and 2nd place not switching) as well for Japan.

F1Fanatic.co.uk also always has some fun facts, and @virtualstatman on twitter also always puts up fun facts/stats

I thought the name was a Grand Chelem, not a Grand Slam. Alonso was the last driver to achieve that :)

Grand Chelem is probably the 'official' name, like Grand Prix, but Grand Slam is often used in English, and since I dislike the French.... :P

Yeah, I saw f1fanatics post as well, though he didn't include everything even. I thought about doing a list of what Vettel can still go for, but I could also wait for the 'year review'.

Any suggestions?

What do you mean "can still go for?"

Like, if Vettel takes 4 more pole positions, he beats Mansell's record for most poles in a season (I think there's 8 or so Vettel can still beat). Would you like to know those now, or juts read about it at the end of the season?

He can also score the "most podiums in a season" and "most victories in a season" record. Also he can (I believe) top the "percentage of maximum points in a season" (i.e. there have been 14 races, = 350 points possible. 309/350 is 88%. Schumi had 84% in 2002 I believe)

I have the list here now; 7 records he can still go for (8 if you count youngest Grand Slam; 9 if you don't consider youngest double champion in the pocket yet). Shall I post them here, or would it be interesting as a separate topic so people can easily keep track? If a separate topic, I can also include other possible stats/records.

I think new topic would be good to keep the discussion "cleaner"

I liked your writing style too. Please do keep it up!

These records need to use % to take into account the length of season.

Mansell pole record was 88% in a season, so Vettel needs to get 17 pole positions to match that. If he's on pole for every remaining race he'll only get 15.

The constructors pole record is possible because RB currently have 100% record. The longer season means that if they drop 1 race they'll end up with a higher percentage than Williams (92,93) & McLaren (98,99) who dropped 1 pole in shorter seasons.

Vettel & RB could manage any challenger in 2nd, regardless of their name. Odd that you think Button posting a fastest lap was less of a threat than crash happy Hamilton trundling back in 5th.

McLaren have won 4 races this season, and are second in both the WCC and WDC. You call that a team in fall?

Have you seen the gap in points and speed?
Q: In the final stages Jenson Button came closer and closer. Did the Canadian race pop up in your mind?
SV: No, not at all. We had enough speed in the car. But, of course, you never know when you’re running into traffic and the blue flags have to be waved whether the drivers will immediately respect the race leader, because these guys are also doing their own race and fighting for their position. As I said before, there were no real issues in the race and those that happened can probably be best described as very minor irritations. Towards the end we eased the speed a bit to make sure that the car was safely homeward bound - that is why Jenson was able to come closer. But should it have been necessary I would have been able to go on full throttle again to keep the status quo.
fastest lap only meant that Vettel was cruising for the win. He was under no threat. Pace is pace.
For Sure!!

Such is life.
Well, if he manages to win all five race in a same McLaren (the indication would be Button) there indeed would be questions of what the hell he did at the previous races.
