If we had the wealth of our TV programs, movies and books in german, it would be quite easy to learn it.
I'd like to see you learn my native Mandarin (Chinese language) then. In all fairness Ringo, why would they be exposed to English television when they grew up in places without English television?

Which one is more popular, Cantonese?
Isn't Cantonese the must learn language in china, like how english is the must learn language around the world?
Maybe more mandarin speakers can speak Cantonese than Cantonese speakers speaking mandarin.

So i don't excuse mr Vettel for being a bit like a broken record.
And that kobayashi fellow needs to get some english lessons, as his accent is horrible.
Nakajima and Sato did a better job expressing themselves.
For Sure!!

No, Mandarin is.

There is less than one percent (it's closer to 0.71%) Mandarin speakers who speak Cantonese. All who understand Cantonese understand Chinese.

It sounds bad and a little arrogant but its true, English is becoming the language of the world. In most diplomats have to learn English and in what language are all the interviews broadcast. Personally I would have no problem with having subtitles but then the reporters need to speak different languages as well. It is just much easier to have everyone talk in one language, whether that's Chinese or English or Greek.

So what? F1 is a driving contest, and technology too (if that's the right words). It doesn't matter how boring/exciting you are off track

Personally, I am fluent in both English and Mandarin + I can understand dialects like cantonese, Hakka, hokien, etcs...
People who only knows a single language will find it difficult to understand why 'fereigners' makes silly mistakes in speech and writing. However, once you're multi-lingual, it is not strange and it is not confusing either.
It is time for some to really open their minds about different language and culture. I love when german speakers speaks with their strong accent or Italians who speaks with their hands all over the place. It is so refreshing and fun to watch.

Anyway, Mandarin is the official Chinese language and China has more English speaker than any other country.

Looking back since 2009 when Vettel joined Red Bull. There has been a lot of improvement from this kid. I remember in 2009, his mentality was that he is fast/talented and the rest will come together.

Now in 2011, he is focused to make sure all the to-do list is ticked. His goal for every race is clear, make sure the car can run the fastest on race day with the setup they've got before Quali starts. Then try to get pole with a race day setup. Sounds easy, but he is the only one who mastered it more often this year than any other driver.
Personally, I don't think Red Bull would have dominated so much without Vettel. Just refer to his teammate as proof.

Thank you for illustrating my point jamsbong. (regarding language) Mind you I don't speak Hakka though :P

About your second post, I seem to remember that the 92 Williams and Hakkinen's McLarens always had a bigger time advantage than the last two Red Bulls

All drivers interviews are predictable because there is 99% of the time nothing to say: all that needs to said is done on the track. Raikkonen was always visibly perturbed by interviews, and his response was always, 'we will wait and see.'

That said, a lot of driver's personalities are quite entertaining and distinctive, from Alonso's 'piss-stop' Heidfeld's accent, Schumacher's earnestness/evasiveness etc. Hope I don't sound ignorant, I'm not criticizing others accents, just enjoying it!

My favorite accent-based interview awkwardness was Heidfeld in 2009 Japan on the grid walk :P

jesus christ...
I was not aware of that..that´s the average german engineer level of speaking enlish . I almost get the impression Marty is unsettling him a bit ,sure he let him know by his facial expression that he´s amused by the words of a pro ...sure Nick should be able to express himself a lot better after all these years in international racing...with Prost ,Sauber and BMW...maybe his french is a bit better??
I´m pretty sure this is a source of many misunderstrandings in everyday life in the paddock and definitely not a help in his career.

So marcush.. is your accent like Nick's, the German boy in Simpsons or the Norbert Haug style?

Vettel's accent sounds very fake to me btw. I really want to see him in a difficult space next year. I want to see his true character. I want to hear how he really speaks. They say people always show their true selves when under pressure.

I don't think it will happen next year as the rules are still similar. But for sure, I don't expect Vettel's heavenly run of success to be everlasting.
I think one shouldn't expect a big smile off anyone when things aren't going well because putting up a smile is just pretending. So I guess the best attitude will be to say something like ' we need to do some more work and sort out the problems' etcs...

I always thought Michael Schumacher's attitude to bad situation is really good. He never point fingers at his team or teammate. you get the feeling that he continues to motivate people even in tough situations. His comeback in 2010 is probably the toughest with so much expectation and the reality he faced is an unreliable/slow car, a very fast teammate and a steep learning curve. To me, his comeback is a true heroic act!
