Would the low nose regs allow a McLaren-like snowplough? Also, the RB5 nose seems quite a fair bit low; would that not be legal? I think the low nose would make the V nose VERY tempting to open up some air to feed the floor. How exactly are the low nose regs written in? Btw; low nose is coming in 2012/2013, is it not?
Hopefully FIA loosens up the regs some regarding the nosecone.
I would love to see what teams can produce with holes through it, much like Ferrari did.
That way you still get the safety from the low nose but also have the ability to transfer air through it.
The other thing that is specified is the location of 5 camera locations, the front ones will not allowed to be on the nosecone or on the wing supports as the FIA want them to be at a specified location between the wishbones on the front suspension. The T Cam remains in its present location. The cameras either side of the cockpit must be at a specified location as well.
I thought the step wings on the front wing were also being outlawed as well and the number of elements being reduced to 2???
The rear wing i thought was also to have a standardised 150mm centre section as well with a standardised DRS mechanism as well.
However, the one area that has been could be returning, but not certain yet is the Front Flap Adjust on the front wing as to allow the drivers to tune the cars front wing during the race using the same regs from 2009 and 2010. This has been missed this year when the driver has had a small incident and the step plane has gone from the car.
However, its the rules in 2015 or 2016 that could have the biggest change in the look of a F1 car, and that is the introduction of up to 18" wheels from the current 13.3 inch diameter ones. Some teams have asked for the 18" to be abandoned for a hybrid 15" or 16" diameter wheel. Id like the increase of wheel diameter to be increased to a 16" diameter as it would mean the cars would be slower thru the corners, but faster on the straights. Id keep the widths pretty much the same as the current breed of F1 wheel. It would add around 12.5Kg to each corner of the car in weight.
Im not sure how people would feel about limiting change of aero spec on wings and diffusers would work, say limit the teams to 5 spec changes a year, once raced you can use that spec or any previous spec again that year, meaning Monaco and Monza specs would be effectively banished to history. However Monaco specs are similar to Hungaroring and Singapore and Monza specs are similar to Canada and Spa specs as well. Teams can test as many specs they want in Friday sessions, but once a car is sent out on a Saturday that spec is locked in for the year.
It's kinda hard to take anything from this when there's so much obviously wrong... The MGU for example isn't actually connected to the drive train in any way. The "energy from the breaks" label shows a cable connecting the breaks via the suspension, and is bollocks anyway.
A lot of what I've seen in terms of 2014 renderings have only had a single exhaust? Is that actually mandated now? Though maybe teams will all go that route to gain all of the possible exhaust boost from all 8 headers

This was posted in the FIA InMotion Mag so I just decided to post it here, not that its a standard in anyway.
Can someone clarify for me; I know that exhausts are moved to periscope configurations for 2012; when does low nose come in? When does the narrower front wing come in?

Yep, I wasn't trying to lambast you – more what passes for journalism on tech topics... The audience for the FIA's magazine is technical people interested in how an F1 car is designed, yet somehow they still think it's okay to get a an artist with the briefest spec to do the drawing, rather than consulting an engineer. The result is things like "energy from the breaks" rather than "energy generated by using the MGU to perform some of the breaking".
With the new front wing being narrower, the endplates will be ending 75mm inside the car's width, rather than at 0mm. Do you guys think the outwash wing will stay the optimum design?
Outwash will remain preferable as long as the endplate is outboard of the half width of the tyre. More inboard will be introduced as the endplate gets closer to this point.
I have read this too but then that nose won't be legal for next year (and I can't see them lifting those restrictions). Also not sure about the exhaust positioning on that image either.

Only six cylinders and a maximum of two exit pipes are legal. The teams expect one exit at least according to comments made on sound.
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best ..............................organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

Yes it will, look, low dash bulkhead and a flat nose design, similar to the 2011 cockpit, only lowered.
For 2014 the front bulkhead is lowered further to 525mm above the reference plane and there are restrictions on the nose tip height.
