With a mandate chassis height, how can they be only 30mm lower thatn the others?
I did some calulation on McLaren vs Ferrari suspension mounting points, McLaren one were 8cm lower than the Ferrari one.
With all the computing power and wind tunnel time the teams have, there is just too little agreement on what the nose should look like. The logical conclusion is that there is no ideal choice at this time when the nose is viewed in isolation.Callum wrote:I was just wondering what people thought about their nose design as it seems that ever other car has a stepped nose. Do people think McLaren have missed an oportunity, or are they the ones who have picked up on some performance?
People, you've mixed min and max height regulations.Lurk wrote:With a mandate chassis height, how can they be only 30mm lower that the others?

The maximum height of the survival cell between the lines A-A and B-B is 625mm above the reference plane.
The minimum height of the survival cell between the lines B-B and C-C is 550mm.
Are you willing to make this more interesting? I seem to remember a certain esteemed member promising to eat his balaclava over a similarly bullish predictionMr.S wrote:MARK my post. My words will come true.
I will eat my baclava if Williams doesn't win both championships!gridwalker wrote:Are you willing to make this more interesting? I seem to remember a certain esteemed member promising to eat his balaclava over a similarly bullish predictionMr.S wrote:MARK my post. My words will come true.
Your right about a low nose in itself producing more downforce than a raised nose. In fact, the old conventional low noses of the 80s and early 90s produce more downforce than the noses now.HILTON wrote:am i right in saying that the step nose would be the point of most downward pressure and the mclaren nose having more downward pressure being exerted at the front??
if this is the case would mclaren not be more beneficial by having more grip on the front end? or does the step nose put pressure closer to the middle of the car thus producing a more equal balance between front and back down force?
i dont know much about areo so if i sound like i have just smoked crack i apologise
Hmm you seem to know about loosing the plot!Mr.S wrote:I think they have lost the plot. Frankly I see them not doing any better than what Mercedes where last season. Things have changed. There is no DD & certainly no EBD. Every other team has gone for a stepped NOSE.
Every team. Even going with ugly designs & for sure they all have done R & D with lower noses & more smooth & more beautiful like Mclaren have. Newey,Ferrari,Lotus & Mercedes have the budget to do so.
I find it no straight coincidence. As Newey said this is the ONLY EFFICIENT Solution however ugly it is. This nose will turn our like SWB did for Mercedes. See you my dear fanboys. I am calling it now. MARK my post. My words will come true.
