If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

The McLaren race engineers are the easiest to understand.

Hamilton: "Uhhhh guys i'm feeling vibrations my rears are bald" Engineer: Understood but we have enough to pull us to the end Schumacher is too far behind" imagine how livid Hamilton would of been if his tyres fell off the "Cliff"

Is it a regulation that the drivers/engineers have to communicate in English? I think I remember Alonso communicating with his engineer in italian at one race. wasn't sure if the radio messages have to be in english so that the FIA can quickly interpret them?

I think it's just common practice to use English because it's the majority language in F1 in general. English is the native language for the majority of team members in F1 simply because historically most teams are based in England and are staffed by native English speakers. Also, it acts as a common language where e.g. driver and engineer are from different countries and may not speak the other's native tongue.

I'm not a fan of theoverly official McLaren radio style. I prefer the Vettel-Rocky or Massa-Smedley type friendly radio

I have a vague recollection of a TV or radio commentator say that english is mandated so the FIA stewards know what is happening ... and they can make more money because it makes the broadcasting more compelling.

Obvious the stewards are more important than the money ;)

Well somebody made a suggestion the other day that perhaps some drivers were swearing every ther word in such a way that forced FOM to not broadcast their messages quite simply because there was no chance to bleep them out
