Lotus E20 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

What he means is that they have moved the exhausts and found benefits. Therefore they can control and direct them.

This car has a very special suspension aid installed. That is why it was handling so well and responding favorably to setup changes.

There is a very big bump on the right side of the chassis bulkhead. The device is housed in there. I do not know what it does or when it works, but I have a hunch...

Don't read too much into that (the bump I mean) they've had those in 2010 too and maybe even little ones in 2009. Not sure if they are different sizes this year either. Having said that, I hope they don have something special under there!

So the designers of the last two season's best car moved their exhaust to an position obviously inferior to their initial setup in spite of extensive testing of the first iteration? Riiiiiiight.

And wow at those figures. 700kph? 194m/s? How did you arrive at that?

McLaren has the best exhaust system. It's pretty much a proven design that they can direct the exhaust wherever they damn please

I also think that many people take some teams dominance or inferiority for granted. Unless some team has something hidden that will enable them superiority, 2012 will be one of the tightest seasons ever, with many different winners and teams on podium.

Wow, a thoroughly thought opinion with a lot of reason after all that madness currently roaming in most of the topics!

I think 'proven' is a bit premature. Perhaps after a few races we can say that.

Perhaps it should say "premature exhaust" but it would mean that it leaks before the end, and that is not something one brags with.

Proven to work in testing... but can these exhausts be highly developed?

Here is the large hump on the bulkhead.

Yep that's definably bigger than previous years and they didn't used to be different sizes.

If there was something 'new' under it, they would have made two identical bumps like those on the R30 in order to fool us and hide it...

Allison says there will be some 'surprises' on the E20 in Melbourne

When and where he said that?Link please.
Fernando Alonso is the best pay-to-drive driver in F1 with the biggest amount of money behind him.

He said it in an interview for their website.
WITH SO MUCH DEVELOPMENT STILL ON GOING AT THIS EARLY STAGE OF THE SEASON, HOW DIFFERENT WILL THE E20 THAT SITS ON THE GRID IN MELBOURNE BE TO THE CAR WE’VE ALREADY SEEN AT JEREZ?

The car we take to Melbourne will be significantly different to the one we ran in Jerez. There’s a lot of work still to do before the season opener, and so many elements will change; the front wing, rear wing, side pods, pod vanes, engine cover, barge board, floor, some suspension elements, and some small brake duct features to name but a few! As always, it’s going to be a very busy few weeks.
"...and there, very much in flames, is Jacques Laffite's Ligier. That's obviously a turbo blaze, and of course, Laffite will be able to see that conflagration in his mirrors... he is coolly parking the car somewhere safe." Murray Walker, San Marino 1985

Allison said these words after Jarez tests and before first Barcelona test. In Barcelona E20 has got all upgrades mentioned below.
