I'm hoping that they will.
Atleast we know:
-they can (over-)heat the tires in cold conditions (Oz) ~20°C
-They can keep the tires cool enough in hot conditions (the longruns on Friday in Malaysia weren't so bad) ~40°C
And both only by setup changes.

Now they only have to hit the sweet spot on Sunday.

Yeah.. God forbid it should rain. I am a big Mercedes fan and they are the team I support. But If they have to depend on the weather to perform they don't deserve the points. They need to fix the problem and get on par with the other teams.

The next development avenue/battlefront -- a stealthy weather-reactive (temp, humidity, rain, etc) setup system that can avoid detection from prying eyes.

Or they should just set up the car for wet weather all the time and convince Bernie to install sprinklers or rain machines :P

Screw those. They should just invest in rain seeding technology

I imagined the team saying "Screw it, let's go with a wet weather set up at every race. If it rains then we're good, if not then oh well."

Awfully quiet on this thread, predictions for china then it is:-

Qualy -
Schumacher 5th
Rosberg 6th

Race -
Schumacher 5th
Rosberg 6th

I think i would take that as a decent foothold.

I'm wondering if China is where Rosberg will outqualify Schumacher. Last year he was the better qualifier on a consistent basis.

But then again Schumacher has looked much stronger this year and much more comfortable with the car.

I'd be very surprised if at least one of the Mercedes was not on the front row in China. The China straights are massive and W03 will be able to achieve its top geared speed much quicker than others and I'm hearing W03s super-DRS will be worth over half a second for the straights alone.

Seeing Schumacher on pole would certainly make my weekend.

The China straight is very long, but I think the percentage of straights to the lap is greater in Malaysia

Ingo Speich has about as much clout at Daimler as a gold fish in a gold fish bowl.
The only justifiable reason for a withdrawal would be expense.
And Mercedes just recorded their best ever quarter in its history, so cash is not a problem for them.

Allied to this, we can see Mercedes fighting tooth and nail for a better deal from the concorde agreement. Even going as far as using European law to block favourable deals for Red Bull and Ferrari(Hope they succeed on this if they go down this route).

The decision is the boards. And Shareholders cannot sack the board on the basis of Mercedes involvement in F1 when the car company is going from strength to strength.

The only reason Mercedes will quit(as a team), will be because it has lost faith in the ability of the team to provide it the results it needs. And the W03 is actually not far away from delivering them some much needed podiums.
Concorde agreement permitting, I see Mercedes on the grid in 2013.
More could have been done.
