Right. Beyond actually winning, there's immeasurable value just in how your team is
perceived. Even when faltering, Ferrari remains the watermark other teams are measured by. When McLaren falters, we don't admonish them as being an "also-ran". Other teams have stepped into (Red Bull) and out of (Williams) this degree of status.
As long as Mercedes is able to achieve this status, and then maintain it, I can see them staying in the sport.
More literally speaking.... they need to win the constructors championship then remain as one of the teams always vying for it.
