The item with the large hose is the actuator that changes gears via the selector drum. This is an older gearbox, so its not a quick shift set up, later Renaults use two selector drums\\actuators. I'm not aware of these being "cooled" but I do know they suffer problems with the fluid moving around, just as with a suspension damper.
The clutch sits at the bottom of the assembly and the plate is bolted to the front of the gearbox. so that the actuator sits to the right of the case, when viewed from the front.
