Michael seems to be sure of having used up all of his bad luck for this year?
I´m surprised they took this big risk with him but man it was the first nail biting situation of the weekend they supplied .
Rosberg -the 1lap specialist -was unable to get his tyres working in Q2 ....so that was a surprise...it damn looks like Lady luck has decided to change camps in the AMG garage . :wtf:

So we need to put our hopes on Schumacher who has all the right tyres brandnew still available and has a good grid position as well.Podium?

Thoughts on long run pace? It didn't look very promising from what I saw.

Once more this team showed its weaknesses by making a massive mistake. Just this time they were lucky not to end up on P17 instead of P3. Even the drivers who used a soft set in Q3 will have enough soft sets left for tomorrow so there was nothing to win with that tire saving. Let's hope the cars hold together tomorrow.

The weather gods betrayed Merc on race-day at Silverstone last time. Hopefully the conditions tomorrow work in the W03's favor, and the pit strategy & execution are all spot-on. Fingers crossed for a podium (maybe 2nd at least) for MSC, and perhaps a recovery to P10 or better for ROS. [-o<

Indeed. Also praying that MSC is able to stay away from the clutches of Maldonado. [-o<

OK - 'mep' - Please be objective: look at the second runs in Q1 from all the front runners - including Nico and you will see that in those conditions the soft tyre was no quicker than the hard, and arguably for some teams it may well have been quicker on the hard. It is rarely clear cut in Q1 as the track has not settled. Also the softer tyre in Q1 where there is a very high chance of a lap being 'spoilt' by traffic is less forgiving as you are much less likely to get 3 timed laps out of it, hence the hard gives the driver 3 reasonable shots at putting a lap in - as MSc did today. If you are squeamish about 0.05s margin then you are in the wrong sport.

It is pathetic to see how they screw up. First by not going on the softs in q3, imidiatly as hulk did a good lap everyone understod what was about to happen, just pure luck for MS. why are they not constantly on it when the sessions starts?, in theese conditions it is clearly favorable. MS did à magic lap (as Hamilton) to save them again in q2.
Then in q1 it Would be nice to see a somewhat timed finish for once. To me the team are always reacting, they seem unable to be proactive and plan ahead. On top of that development of the car have stopped.

I missed the qualifying today. Were the team doing their questionable stuff again? It is the team we're gonna miss so much if Mercedes pull out the plug

Schumacher is in a good position at the start tomorrow, but are we in for another Silverstone where they went backwards during the race? I hope we're not. The thing is this is not the kind of team that learns from its mistakes #-o

Well we will see, Rosberg said they have a try setup for tomorrow.
Where this could be for Rosberg only.

OK, here is what is happening right now i reckon. Merc is going to be here for next year, senior staff have understood the car is not a WDC car and will never be. I think now they are focusing most of the resources on next years development which probably is in it´s most intence phase right now. I think the decision to skip this year was taken after evaluation of the last major updates (sidpods etc) which didn´t make a whole lot differnce and by then managment said, ok lets focus on next year.

Hence the very odd statement from Ross Brawn about prioritising tire development (which they still need to do for next year anyhow) just to execuse the lack of updates.

So i don´t expecxt any more major things, with luck and right circumstances they might get a good result but i wouldn´t expect it.

I believe Nico set his time in quali (in q1) on prime's?

Ross Brawn:
It was a very eventful qualifying today but the positive thing was that our car was fundamentally fast in both the dry, intermediate and wet parts of the session. Nico was the second fastest prime tyre runner in Q1, but when the rain came, he struggled to generate temperature in his intermediate tyres. In those conditions, once you lose tyre temperature you never get it back, so we certainly missed the window with him. Michael did an excellent job in Q2 and Q3; he was fourth fastest, will start P3, and could potentially have been even further up. But we can be satisfied with a second row start in such tricky conditions.

I believe Michael was having difficulty getting heat into the tires during Q1 today while Nico seemed to get a bit more heat into them. Tomorrow's weather suggests it will be a bit warmer, so perhaps Michael's setup will be more agreeable on dry tires making for a competitive race pace. I would not at all be surprised if Michael gets a podium tomorrow. The Merc is decent in all sectors here so let's hope that translates to results tomorrow with good tire heat useage for Michael.

From the interview I just watched, he said he had a problem with the car (wasn't doing what he wanted it to).

The heat into the tyres thing, may still be true though  .
