its really depressing. Schumi clearly has his raw skills intact, after his pole on a proper drivers circuit like Monaco, and both of the wet quali's. Outraced Rosberg the last 3 races, when both cars have no problems. And he just cannot do anything, cannot even attack in the middle of a stint or on the softer tyre.

I thought that they started development on the 2012 car early, earlier than planned.
Also there wasn't much rule change between 2011 and 2012, you could argue the blowing of diffuser was major, but that was something being taken away from the top cars, and balanced out the field even more.

the car simply doesn't have raw pace, in any form. They are now the 5th best team, fighting with force indias and saubers!

i can only put it down to 1 factor - maybe its because mercedes are sticking rigidly to the RRA, and redbull/ferrari are more than likely not?
Do you think this has anything to do with it? A much lower budget than ferrari/redbull?

would you believe Sauber or Force India have comparable recources moneywise?
Fair enough sauber has a VERY good Windtunnel and CFD (read computing power) but what about FI? they use obsolete Mclaren recources ,are they?

I'm really disappointed about this car's performance. Okay, they are now a bit closer to the front then one year ago but we need to consider, there were some rulings, and because of it, everybody now a bit closer.

I do not know deeply the old Ferrari team's structures but for me, it looks like this team (Mercedes) missing a key member, a true boss, a team leader, a charismatic person who kick the engineers and other members ass when there are no results. Someone like Jean Todt...

Okay, this car is still build up by the same bullshit developers like the W02 or W01. Maybe this is the problem, and the W04 will be much closer to the podium, because Costa and Willis with Bell now take full responsibilities. If not, they need a leader.

w04 without Michael  I don't expect anything for naxt race... Only a miracle can lead Mercedes on the podium. is so frustrating to watch a guy with full of talent and experience can't do nothing just because car is s**t

That's a very good point, Marcus. Maybe they know what to spend their resources on and how. I doubt that people at Mercedes have the tiniest clue about what they are doing. The team seems unable to solve any of their problems. They had tire problems since 2010 and it's still going on. Are they still restructuring? :wtf:

I hate to say it to you guys but all the way from testing i have said, and it has been clear that this will be another lost year.

When first test was done i predicted a hard battle with Sauber & FI. Lotus, Macca,Red Bull, Ferrari wont be in reach. I seriously think that MGP have dropped this years car now and by that i think they will have to fight it hard with Sauber for keeping 5th in constructors.

What i would like to question is this stop development of current car and start early with the new, they have done that 2 years in a row with really no good results. Maybe it´s better to keep pushing and try to find out new improvments rather then sit down with what you currently have and start on the new project.

There is so much wrong in this team:

1. car is halfway descent, on pair with FI, Williams, Sauber but you would expect more considering resources.
2. the whole development, skipping first test, turning up late with a development that was said to be started early
3. tyre degradation, 3 years now and i don´t know how many times they said they are on top of it
4. have you ever seen a Mercedes with a test rig?, surely they have the same amount of days in full scale wind tunnels as other teams, i don´t think their tunnel is that much better. Do they never want to check behaviour?
5. pit management, often you sit at home and think, why are they doing this, (going for soft tire strategy when the car is chewing tires, on top of that getting knocked out from Q2,Q3 just to save soft tires to use on crap strategy).

Thing is i can live with a bad car, it´s not easy building competent cars, what you can do however is make the most of it. Ferrari really did it, Sauber doing it but Mercedes only adds bad management to a bad car. Look at both Ferrari and Red Bull, clearly had some issues in the beginning but now they turn it around.

Just a thought.

Why would a team abandon all other aspects of development in favour of dedicating time and resources to tyre studies? Surely the aero developments need to move in harmony with the understanding of the tyres?

Could it be that whilst Stuttgart is uncertain about its future participation due to not being given a seat at the top table they have frozen the teams R&D funding until they decide if they're in or out?

W03 has not really changed since China.

According to this, Merc have poached an aero-guy from Lotus (Mike Elliot). And he will be replacing Bigois.

I remember this guy being mentioned (here) awhile ago.

There certainly is something fishy going on. All they say is that they are trying to better understand tires and at the same time they are still running the same launch exhaust configuration. By now even Marussia upgraded their exhaust configuration.

I'm guessing its ether what you suggested or they quietly turned all their resources to next season.

already? they turned resourced into next season for 2 seasons in a row. and what were they doing? drawing designes on board? hiding solutions from others just as like they were inventing something top notch like their DDRS? They could easily test that last year and noone would have noticed.

and one would think those germans will make a great car ...

Whats really strange is that even though Bigois was not producing any goods, they still have people at the factory who can be creative ............surely.
Why do they need to wait for a Demascus moment before they act?

faaaaaaaark, at least try something, anything. you can;t be a toilet for 3 yrs and expect to be anything else unless you actually decided tobe something else.
