Adelaide is an awesome track and many people were disappointed when it went to Melbourne. Bernie has been pushing to get Melbourne to become a night race for some time and I believe the costs associated to achieve this are not acceptable to the Government. Bernie has even hinted there may be no Australian GP in the future.

That said, here's some tasty news. Never say never.
Dare we suggest that Adelaide is angling for a return to hosting the Australian Grand Prix? Bernie Ecclestone has made it clear that the future of a Grand Prix in this country will depend on a host venue offering to stage to the race under lights…

Adelaide are keen to get it back and have mineral resources wealth to draw on to fund it. V8s and F1 under lights in Adelaide seems like a match made in heaven. Now if we can only get the red tape sorted......

Almost emigrated to Ade way back when and that was an added draw. Last race of the season and it was perfect. Better than Melbourne by a big margin

I personally prefer Melbourne, lovely flow to the track I think. Its much better as the first race of the season though. Either track is still miles ahead of the car parks they are increasingly using recently. Not too sure about melbourne being a night race either

Adelaide does not have the money to host an F1 race. Unfortunately is that simple.

The track is better (in my opinion), I think the people are more engaged as it is a Much smaller city (25% of the size) but had bigger F1 crowds than Melbourne. However F1 races are obscenely expensive and Bernie wanting to have it at night makes it even more expensive.

Being Melbourne born and bred the Adelaide GP was always better, the people appreciate it more and are super friendly, restuarants are superb, atmosphere sensational and importantly a more demanding track, Melbourne will NEVER race under lights, political pressure is too extreme because the Victorian tax payer subsidises it to the tune of $50 million and they are getting sick of it, Bernie knows the game is up and the extra cost of lighting will push it over the edge. Sadly, Adelaide will never be able to afford it, let alone artificially light it, realistically I don't think we will have a GP in Australia within 5 years.

I was looking at the South Australian State budget paper for 2011, which forecasts up to 2015, and it showed a budget surplus which was quite healthy. Combine that with their recent efforts to increase spending in infrastructure and I thought perhaps there might have been a chance. Seems the recent China slowdown has dropped resource pricing, less money, less spending. Also a recent credit downgrade isn't going to help either. Adelaide is going to need help to get that GP back.
