I think Lauda will have zero involvement in the running of the team. There is already a large executive team at Petronas Mercedes-AMG.marcush. wrote:A complete nonsense.MGP of course has a board at least since AAbar and MGP took over parts of BrawnGP.After Brawn and Fry were bought out they had to resign from the board as well so since then the role of CEO (Fry) is separated from the board -a very normal action these days.WhiteBlue wrote:http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/form ... 19004.html
German source explaining the role of Niki Lauda as non executive director at Mercedes and his role in the Concord negotiations.
It will be interesting to see what kind of an impact this new arrangement will have on people and processes at the team.
Laudas official job description is non-exec member of the board (chairman) as I understand .So he has a controlling only task -he has to sign the cheques and release the budgets ?
But then? he walks into MGP and states after one day the facility is state of the art it´s only the people and people management lacking.
I wonder how this could slip away from the 4 Kings so far...the guy is a complete bastard having no clue whatsoever rushing in stirring up the mud and leaving..he already said he was not prepared to invest time into all this BUT then puts himself in a position to decide what to change ....oh btw ...Lauda has already joined so i look forward to hear about his first actions
maybe he has new ideas in terms of strategies ,development and car maintainance as well?

richard_leeds wrote:The role of a non-exec is to act as a check and balance on the executive team. They also bring broader experience so they can act as advisers to the board.
They wouldn't get involved with day to day operations or or signing checks. What they would do is review how the organisation is functioning, if the executive team were getting the best out of the resources, if the organisation had the right capabilities, and if they had the right strategic direction.
I also imagine that in this scenario, Lauda is also acting as the eyes and ears for the Daimler board.
Not necessarily, if I was a TP I'd feel exposed without the input and supervisory role of a couple of good non-execs. It's a sensible organisational arrangement.Raptor22 wrote:His presence would indicate that theres a lack of faith in the current management from the board level.
from when would you start counting? arrival of Fry ,Brawn or Haug?richard_leeds wrote:Or perhaps its the sign of a maturing organisation, a natural evolution - nothing starts out perfect from day 1.
I´d like to see that papermarcush. wrote:One has to realise the first year with MGP was -at least on paper the best one ....and no king has yet made an impact worth taking notice of..
Lauda is not the sort of fellow you want involved with a F1 team in this day and age.Raptor22 wrote:Granted. butit is unusual foran F1 team to have such a top heavy organisation with so much interest from a board level. When Ferrari were structure this way they hit very hard times.
The typical model is results driven. Itr seems the DB board now requires additional input and not just results.
IF this were a successful team I'd say Lauda's role is consultative to look at improvements and streamlining.
SInce they're doing badly I'd say his role is to provide weight to the latter rather than the former. I'm not convinced the DB board are enchanted with all the new titles in thetech structure and no results.
Perfectly said marcus.marcush. wrote:Bobby Rahal and Niki Lauda ...Rahal had Newey already lured away from Mclaren he had already proved in CART he was a capable guy running a race team a work race team ,sure at a smaller scale than a formula 1 operation but nevertheless.
Lauda popped in in a similar non exec role as he is now starting to occupy and i wonder if he learned anything last time around....In short he sort of burned Rahal out of his position only to face the sack some 5 months later without achieving anything it´s 10 years later now ...but judging from his antics on RTL this is going to be a Horrortrip not only for Brawn but also for Zetsche,Haug ...and in essence also for Rosberg and Hamilton.
Mind you Lauda was laughing loud about the the childish"jetset" Hamilton who failed to concentrate on important things in life only to lift him above everyone else these days.
Lauda is not afraid of leaving behind burned soil ,that´s for sure .Anyone interpreting more into this ...so it be.
