Would have just loved to see a repeat of 2006 Interlagos style drive for the second farewell too. Well, then too much to ask for with a sub par car. Nevertheless, Thank you Michael, the Great.

But he outdriven his younger teammate and managed to get into the points being once lapped! Another GREAT drive!
Really sad that when the crap-car was capable of fighting for podiums everything went wrong for him, retirements due to every mechanical reason possible. I know, Senna incident in Spain but then again even after that the guy couldn't catch a break. Sad days for Formula 1, when one of the greats is "forced" to leave the sport due to the team's incompetence.
Thank you Michael for 3 incredible years of fighting spirit, teamwork and professionalism.

When only looking at the points, it isn't really evident, but Schumacher has actually made steady progress during all three years at Mercedes, when comparing him to Rosberg. In 2010 there wasn't any doubt that Rosberg was better. In 2011 I would say that they were pretty much equal. Rosberg generally qualified better, but Schumacher had much better starts and the race pace was also competitive. Through all of his years in f1 Schumacher has generally performed better in the races than in qualifying. In 2012, Schumacher has actually improved further on qualifying and he beat Rosberg 10 out of 20 times, despite DRS-problems and other problems not related to the driver. I think the ammount of points he lost due to car failures is greater than the difference in points between him and Rosberg this year. Something went wrong every time he was competitive.
Mercedes' best races were the following: China, Bahrain, Monaco, Canada, Valencia and Singapore. Rosberg scored 79 of his 93 points in these races. Schumacher only scored 16 points in the same races because his equipment let him down in nearly all of them, except for Valencia where he beat Rosberg and made the podium. In addition to this, Schumacher retired from 3rd in Australia with technical problems, so I actually think he performed better than Rosberg this year.
So it's a bit sad to see Schumacher retire now, as long as he still seems to be improving. At least he has showed that even well up in the 40's he is still competitive, although he is not at the level of his best days.
Yeah, sad to say goodbye to Michael, but he is firmly in our hearts. He is simply unforgettable. I actually enjoyed his come back although it did not yield the results that he had aimed for. I'm sure the three years tough him a lot and he came across much more relaxed and more human without the constant pressure he had at Ferrari when the car was competitive.
I wish Michael and his family all the best. May he enjoy his kids and her horses as much as we enjoyed to see him racing the best race cars of the world.

To paraphrase Phil Hill, MS was a great driver, but he was not a good driver -- a bit too ruthless for my taste. His records are unlikely to ever be broken. He played a very large part in bringing Ferrari back to life. He was supreme leader and team-builder. I love him, but I wish he'd been a little more the gentleman on track.
I am very happy for him and his family that he is able to walk away unbroken and unscarred.
