Hello guys, I was wondering if anybody knows the tires dimensions back in 1988 and if possible the regulations that were applying at that time (aero restrictions, engine, etc.) ? Would be great !
I don't have the answer, but I am curious as to what you need it for?
Check out my project at http://www.gpevolved.com. I am attempting to retell the story of F1, one race at a time. Stop by for a taste of Formula 1 in the 1950s.
I'm just modelling for fun a 1988 F1 car on CATIA and well I just want to look it a bit realistic. I have takend the MP4-4 as a reference but it will be a bit different !
I would have thought I would get more answers, especially on this forum, but probably its because its holiday time we'll say, anyway I found that pre-1992 the rear tires were 18" wide here : http://www.f1technical.net/forum/viewto ... ?f=4&t=591
Maybe you can get the rough dimensions from some pictures.
Tires start to look really realistic when you give them a bulky shape on the sidewalls.
You could even go as far as modeling the compression under load.
I don't know how accurate model cars are but you can start there comparing the overall car length to the tire size.
