Calling all computer geeks...

I've just bought one of those memory stick things (512mb). I can store pictures on it no problem but it won't let me store a one page word document on it for some reason. It says 'cannot copy file or folder, the disk is write protected. Please remove write protection or use another disc.'

Two questions,

1) What the hell is write protection? and
2) How the hell do I remove it?

I think i had a similar problem with mine, i seem to remember going into 'my computer', right clicking 'removable disk/drive', 'properties' and you should have an option to remove.

I am not a computer geek, I just fiddle with everything to find out what it does, my mum hates it.

It must have a mechanical switch that prevents it from writing. There is no difference between saving pics and word doc. It must have locked after you've saved pics. Lock is usually like slider, can't be too hard to locate

Did you try to copy the document on to your memory stick through my documents while microsoft word was open at the same time withthat document running on it. If so close word and copy onto memory stick throughmy documents.

Memory sticks, like floppies, can be write protected. In other words, there is a way to make sure that nothing can be written to a recordable medium. In the memory stick, ther eis usually a small switch somewhere on the outside of the stick. On position it is write protected, and the other, not.
