The Future Race Car Driver.... Control ?

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

The Future Race Car Driver.... Control ?

Post

I did search, but could find no reference to this interesting talk by Chris Gerdes.

The driver as a Control Shaping.... Adaptive Control System?

I am curious. Does the driver "Drive the Car he has" or the "Car he Thinks he has" is the Driver an Active or Re-Active control system?

I have asked before elsewhere and would like to hear comments from here.

Chris Gerdes has an Interesting work space!

A control system can have both feed-forward and feed-back components operating together.
Grip is a four letter word. All opinions are my own and not those of current or previous employers.

At 6/10 a driver is pretty much open loop, with some feedback*. When he turns it up to 11/10 then I imagine things change rather a lot.

*This is why people hate rear axle roll steer. They dial up the right amount of SWA for a given corner and then the car lurches into the corner and they have to adjust the SWA again.
