Race car engineering related magazines

Post

Hi All!

i would like to ask to you guys which publications about Race Car Engineering do you usually read.

I am and i used to be a Racecar Engineering reader for a long time, but in the last two years i have experienced a lot of issues with their Customer Care Service. I often miss issues although i don´t live in a small island in the middle of the ocean! I am now in Germany.

I like RCE very much, but i was wondering if you know any other similar magazine and if you had good/bad experience like mine.

Race Tech Magazine is also very good along with Race Engine Technology mgazine. Links Below.
The latter has specialist publications fo F1, Sportscars, Rally, Nascar.

thanks for the links!

do you normally read race tech magazine? Can you compare it to RCE if you´ve ever bought it as well?

Or do you know if there is a way to take a look to a part of an old issue to see how it looks like? I didn´t find this possibility on their website...

I had a year subscription to RCE.. didn't think much of it and never resubscribed.

Perusing SAE papers is sometimes more interesting.

Oh welcome in the club of racecar engineering subscribers who don't receive their magazines in Germany.
I had a subscription a year ago and did not receive the first quarter of them. After that it was fine. I just resubscribed circa a month ago but again I don't get the issues. Seems like they have some problems to sent their magazines over the channel.

Mep,

exactly the same issues!

I have received the first issue 5 months after the scheduled subscription time. During the process i have lost at least 3 issues out of 12.

And they are really slow in reacting to emails.

As i said although sometimes it is more interesting sometimes less, i like the magazine but i am quite angry about the customer car service.

So i am wondering if there is anything similar/good enough that deals with similar topics.

I wonder if we could just call them and make some trouble to make them deliver faster. I have seen some other suppliers of the magazine in Germany but their prices where unacceptable. There are other magazines around but I am no fan of them.

i wrote them and they simply replied to me that they were sorry and could not do anything anymore.

The only thing they have done was to make my subcription longer by the number of months i haven´t received anything from them. So for example if you miss an issue, you have one month more at the end. If they will be able to deliver it! :D

But still you miss some issues. it´s not anyway a fair behaviour in my opinion.

Unfortunately there not many publications around dealing with Race Car Engineering related topics, they seem to be one of the very very few.

One of the writers (I think) used to post here. If I remember right it was Sam Collins. You might try a search to see if you can contact him directly he usually took good care of forum members. I think his user name was scollins or something like that

I'd still be wary of what you read in RCE. But I suppose that applies to just about everything.

Racecar Engineering is available as a digital subscription. guaranteed delivery that way, on time too.
i like it most for "the consultant", it's the first article that i read every time. although after Jersey Tom's suggestion, i have a feeling i shouldnt be taking Mark Ortiz's statements to heart.
Jersey Tom, anything more you can tell me about any possible misdirection or what-have-you?

I dont think "RCE is available as digital subscription" is valid here. I know it exists, and I think the OP does too, but some people just prefer actual copies. But yeah, it is there, but RCE promises a certain date etc. and they have to live up to that.

There was a free Le Mans issue once, and took it a read, well for what you can call "reading". I enjoyed the mag, there are some great articles in it, but since I am not much of a reader and cant get through long texts a subscription really isnt an option for me.

And as for JT's issue with it, I think I'd understand it, as it is written towards people interrested in the tech side it is sometimes overly simplified, and as more of an expert on a certain side it can be kind of annoying to then read it. I have that for example with stuff about IT, or regular F1 news articles.

Bernouli magazine - http://www.racetechmag.com/bernoulli - that would explain my addiction to aerodynamics :)
I've bought numerous aero books as well, but I'm running out of options.
