Tyre Thread widths

Post

Were Michelin front tyres of 2003 the widest in f1 history?

Does anyone have front tyre widths over the years?

I would have thought that some of the rear tyres in the 80's would have been wider but I don't have any numbers.

I was speakign to someome once and he told me that they were so wide that the tyre itself would twist like a differential from the outside edge to the inside edge.

agreed !
combined with the grotesquely wide (wheel) track of those days
all sorts of conflicting geometrical and force effects ?

although the very wide track alleviated some of the difficulties of such wide tyres

they played with various rim configurations as well to combat that ,,, rims wider than the tread and visa versa...cross section looked like a parallelogram.
