Lotus' looks stronger than Ferrari's but weaker than Merc's.
Really? My own number crunching had Lotus about a tenth or two off Ferrari

Webber disqualified and will start last on grid.
Not able to take the required fuel sample.

They need to start Webbo from pitlane and change the aero package and the 7th gear ratio . Mark should start on the tyres contrasting to the mid field runners ahead so that he can take advantage of clean air . I would think starting on soft and coming in early to pit will give him freah air for 15 odd laps in 2nd stint and if he has raw pace then he can climb the grid.

i disagree:
2004 really boring
2005 battlee between alonso and schum.
2006 great battlee between alonso and schum.
2007 Alo vs Ham vs kimi = the most fun f1 champ of the last 20 years
2008 Win the champ on the last corner of the last gp really exciting and fun year

i think the most boring f1 eras are the active suspension williams in the nineties and the schum era after hakkinen retiriremet

Interesting stat (via James Allen): you have to go back 8 races to the Korean GP to find the last pole position NOT set by Hamilton or Vettel. Those two really are dominating qualifying at the moment.

I dont know how to read Raikkonen´s comments after qualy. Single lap pace is usually their weakness, he qualifies second, but still is adamant they are nowhere near the pace? Odd! Is he just trying to downplay his expectations?

Vettel has to pass Button and Ricciardo first in order to really use his strategy to the fullest. He could do it at the start, but if he doesn't it will be difficult given his top speed deficit.

Agreed
2005 battlee between alonso and schum.
But boring racing
2006 great battlee between alonso and schum.
Same again
2007 Alo vs Ham vs kimi = the most fun f1 champ of the last 20 years
Good championship, but not a patch on last year or the year before. The racing was not great.
2008 Win the champ on the last corner of the last gp really exciting and fun year
Not in the time range specified.
i think the most boring f1 eras are the active suspension williams in the nineties and the schum era after hakkinen retiriremet
I'd tend to agree that 1992-1998 and 2000-2007 were the two worst periods for the sport. I'd highlight 1988-1991 and 2010 to now as the two real golden ages of the sport.

He could always go extreme - start on softs and push like hell for a lap. Come in, then space out your 3 stop.

Is it? Their short runs were good on the option - their long runs weren't too hot on the prime. Mind you I've had differing people say different things here - so I guess you could call it borderline.

This is the graphic that I've done with the best stint of each driver. I've eliminated the anomalies and I've done the regression line. A very simple approximation about the tyre degradation.

I think that in this terms, Lotus and Mercedes are very similar. The Hamilton's times are faster than Kimmi's one due to the different fuel load. Despite of to have more fuel, the Lotus car has the same regression of degradation than Mercedes, so with less fuel, the tyre degradation would have been even better.

My conclusion is that Renault's degradation is a little bit better, but I think that Mercedes isn't so far how the people says.

1) What makes you think that the Merc is on heavier fuel? The merc has shown it can lap significantly quicker than the Lotus already, that would suggest that at least some of the delta is down purely to the car being better at this track, not fuel load.
2) You seem to have ommited the end of hamilton's run, where his times started to drop down again significantly.

I think Alonso will be next to Hamilton for the first corner. That Ferrari is a monster off the line. But having the correct line for that corner is important and I think Hamilton will squeeze him and lead after turn 3. A safety car will help the guys in front, which is likely although I haven't checked myself. Only assuming.

Safety cars are rare at china. You can usually tell simply based on the size of the runoffs. Tilke == less likely to get safety cars.
