Have 2014 turbo noise levels been measured for dB and pitch?

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Have 2014 turbo noise levels been measured for dB and pitch?

Post

Having atended a few live races and practices myself I can assure that their noise levels is beyond the human pain threshold
Some sources say they can reach 130 dB at full revs.

Will 2014 turbos noise levels (and maybe pitch levels) be reduced to the point where audiences can attend races without wearing hearing protection?
If so, might this open the door to more street circuits?

The only source I found is Andy Cowell stating that "It's a little bit lower in terms of decibels because of the turbocharger, but it's a sweet sound,"

i really don't hope so.
a race car needs to be so loud you can hear it from 5km away. it's fast as hell so it has to be loud as hell :)

No.
In terms of decibels - perhaps a little down.
My gut feeling - a softer noise, lower pitch as well. There's going to be a full, very detailed article on F1 Framework comparing the 2013 V8 sounds with the 2014, once I get clear sound files in 2014.

The current previews are certainly demo and very limited.

With the turbo I'm sure it will be a bit less but still fairly loud.

Then again the last turbo open wheel race I went to was Champ Car at a street circuit several years back, and I don't remember it being that loud.
Grip is a four letter word. All opinions are my own and not those of current or previous employers.

Compared to the sweet Matra MX 670 or the painfully raucous Novi they’ll hardly make any noticeable sound.
