Which was the second Japanese team to participate in a Formula 1 Grand Prix, qualified but never made it to the start.

Team, race and driver?

Team is right, but they didn't qualify for that race.

There was another GP, the only one, when they qualified with another driver, but never started the race itself.

Race and driver please?

1975 Dutch GP, Hiroshi Fushida. Engine failure before the start and the team had no spares.

This might be too easy, but it's the only thing I can think of. One of today's top teams has its roots in a Japanese team led by an Argentinean engineer. What are the teams and who's the engineer?

The team would most likely be Mercedes, rooted in Bar/Honda, but I can't see it ever being led by an Argentinian engineer?

Rinland and Scalabroni are the only Argentinian F1 engineers I know of, but they never worked for Honda as far as I know.

Red Bull was originally Stewart (Britain)
Ferrari->Ferrari (Italy)
McLaren->McLaren (Britain)
Lotus->Toleman (Britain)
Mercedes->Tyrrell (Britain)
Sauber->Sauber (Switzerland)
Force India->Jordan (Britain)
Williams->Williams (Britain)
Toro Rosso->Minardi (Italy)
The new teams are new and not from Japan either.

Did I miss something?

Are you referring to Williams who at one point used Honda engines, and Enrique Scalabroni, who designed the FW11 and FW11B gearboxes?

It's a bit of a stretch to see that as an answer, but I'm stumped like sebp.

Not Williams... maybe I'll post a hint in a few hours. I guess in fear of posting something too easy, I went for something too obscure.

Ok, here's the hint. One of the principals of this incipient team was also a member of the failed USF1 project.

Hi, I think I just got it...
took some time and research and made me finally join the forum to post actively... ;-)

It must be RedBull former Jaguar former Stewart, which used technical staff (and input?) from the Ikuzawa F1-project, technically lead by Enrique Scalabroni...?

You got it. Ikuzawa's near-finished HW001, designed by Scalabroni, was the basis for the Stewart SF01. Stewart went on to become Jaguar and then Red Bull. Peter Windsor was a team principal at Ikuzawa and USF1.

I'm seriously impressed, a long-shot no doubt, but nevertheless. =D>
