2014 Engine yin yang

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Ah OK, thanks, now I understand.

So two pedal maps (% of available torque from power unit = function of pedal travel)

Several power unit maps, some of them limiting the MGU-K max torque addition to the ICE torque.
Maybe even one map allowing the MGU-K max torque without having the ICE at full torque, to help fuel saving.

You guys are on the wrong thread...Shell has obviously cooked up a fuel that makes the turbo V6 sound like V12!

Power can only be demanded by the pedal. Up until now the pedal provided engine power and button directly supplied kers power.
Next year the driver will get both solely from the pedal. However, the driver can select a map from the steering wheel that opens up maximum ers boost for overtaking, the button only selects the map, but the pedal demands the power. Its a subtle difference.
So no kers push-button. And there will be different maps to choose from.
I´m not sure if I´m getting this, but I think then it´s more or less the same. The kers/ers buton disapear and it´s linked to the accelerator, but now they have a dial to adjust the output of the ERS (different mapping) when they push the accelerator, so they can use it through the whole lap with a lower output, or they could use it at the max output at some points of the track

the maximum fuel flux is allowed starting from 10.000 revs or lower?
since boost is not limited I was wondering of making a low revving engine...this would mean less power loss due to internal friction: so more power or less fuel consumption as you prefer...
maybe problems with the torque? could electronic management help for this?

proof f1 cars didn't sound like hell-screaming v10/v12 monsters always,
didn't hear nobody complain on this video, nor back in the day about the sound.

I'm sure everything will be fine with the V6'es

I like the boost control knobs for each bank of cylinders and the qualifying spec stuff vs race stuff; that's hardcore.

Well i think it´s a difference when it´s over a thousand horsepower compared to a rather civilized, modern 600 horsepower V6.

Still, i´m sure the V6 will sound good. I don´t really enjoy the V8´s, just noise, no insanity like the V10´s or the orchestra of the V12´s.

Yeah everyone goes on about the v12s but I actually preferred the v10s sound. Don't know why but that sound used to make me shiver.

This is shaping up to be an interesting season engine-wise. Looking forward to see which one comes out on top.

That article makes me think that Ferrari haven't been able to find a loophole, and are worried.

Au contraire, they have identified the loophole, 800+ Hp, and are scared sh*t that Mercedes and Renault will!
