Southgate's FA1E had the spring/shock-units mounted directly inline with the pushrods, like an "A" above the driver's feet,
tried to find an image on the web but without success.

There's a 48h-rule, if no question is posted, anyone can have a go, knock yourself out?

I haven't got anything good right now, I'll try to think of something but if anyone else wants to have a go, feel free!

Alright, I'll try to get this rolling again... This car was the beginnings of a world beater and had two gears more than that year's world champion.

Is that one too difficult? Does it call for a hint?

Unless it's the Ferrari 640, please hint us?

Think mid-80s. Not the 640, it ran in 1989, when the world championship winning car (McLaren MP4/5) had a 6-speed gearbox.

Damn it, I missed my go AGAIN ... that is like the 3rd time I've done that! Damned real world, getting in the way ;)

Still, I will venture another crack at this and promise I will try to get a question up this time (if I get it right).

Was it the FW13?

Nope, try mid-80s rather than late 80s. The FW13 had a 6-speed box like most teams did that year.

We have a winner!

Gordon Murray's Brabham BT55 was, in a way, the first iteration of a design that would become the world beater McLaren MP4/4. It was equipped with a 7 speed gearbox made by Weismann. The McLaren MP4/2C that won the WCC in 1986 had a 5 speed Hewland gearbox.
