Either a semi-auto box, active suspension or a V12. Seeing as they didn't run a semi-auto until a one off in official practise in Hungary 91 on the 4/6, and didn't run active in 91 at all (until testing the 4/7B in Portugal '92) I'm guessing the '90 Monza run was a V12 test on the 4/5B.

?
F1 car width now 2.0m (same as 1993-1997). Lets go crazy and bring the 2.2m cars back (<1992).

Indeed! After Tyrrell proved the concept of a high nosecone was successful with Postlethwaite's 019 and 020 designs, McLaren decided to give it a go. It didn't quite work as expected and it wasn't until 1995 that a high nose McLaren would be seen in competition.

In trying to find more data on that high nose Mclaren, I came across this:

http://forums.autosport.com/topic/52128 ... er-thread/

Read the 2nd to last thread on that page by Rainer Nyberg.

That same Monza weekend in '90 they tested a V12 on the 4/5B! Senna must have tested the high nose and Palmer the V12.

Lol I was right aswell :)

Stand back gold, it's my go, a golden oldie if you will;

When the Alfa Romeo 1.5 V8 Turbo engine was first presented in 1982, it had one very distinct feature, what was that?

Dear FIA, if you read this, please pm me for a redesign of the Technical Regulations to avoid finger nose shapes for 2016! :-)

Nope! I mentioned in my question that the modification was shelved. McLaren raced a V12 the following year, but they never raced the high nose as tested at Monza. It took them until 1995 to have a high nose car in competition, and the design was much different from the MP4/5B.
