I heard Maldonado say something like he has lost two engines in "a very strange situation, which is difficult to accept!"
Weird stuff! And there I was blaming the loss of the last engine on his valiant attempt to invent a way of passing through tyre walls to the pits. Strange!

Here's a source with a lot more detail than the tweet:

The delta on the dashboard is calculated by taking into account distance travelled and time in comparison to a reference lap. But as Rosberg had travelled 30 metres further on the lap in question than on the reference lap... the delta given was misleading even though the system was functioning correctly.

Rosberg: "coming out of the hairpin my time delta said to me that I was two-tenths slower than my reference time, which was the on I qualified on... ....I knew I braked a bit carefully, but I had lost eight-tenths looking at my dash, which was strange. It's so reliable normally that I believe it, and it was wrong. I was actually six-tenths up going into the last corner, so that was the problem... just take a risk at the last corner because I'm slower'. You might as well go for it and I spun.

Yeah Lewis will be very happy Nico is back where he is, Lewis just needs lap or so without Nico on his tail so he can build a gap.

I think he rather likes to fight his own teammate than the competition. (as they can build a gap asap on them - wcc)

Well, as much as a "team player" Lewis can appear to be, I'm sure he'd rather Nico as far from the podium as possible as he (Lewis) amasses points to pull ahead in the WDC.

I think that he thinks as follows: "for now rbr is slow, nico takes points away from them, but when rbr closes gap, it'll be me against them with nico behind (one or two rbr's)". I think he's confident enough that he can beat Nico (should the gap remain) but if it doesn't, he'll need him (now) up front as much as possible.

We might have a had a good battle for 1st without Nicos issues in qualifying, guess watching him pass the bulls could be fun if its not in the first lap.

I think predictions that Hamilton will run away with this are premature. Remember, Hamilton's setup is in large part guess work. It may well be that while it works well over a qually lap, it also ruins the tyres.

There's plenty of interest to come yet.

Nico was complaining about brake feel as well, they both go onto tomorrow's race with question marks over set up.

I agree, its too early to write off Nico, but no one else is going to be near this weekend, apart from when they are being lapped.
