Some consideration on Power Units after the Austrian GP

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Some consideration on Power Units after the Austrian GP

Post

Canada and Austria are two circuit in which the engine is very important but we have seen some very interesting differences in PU performances :

The margin of Merc engine is lower in Austria
Renault engine looks stronger in Canada than in Austria
Ferrari engine looks stronger in Austria than in Canada.

On the Austrian circuit it's very difficult to recover energy so the hybrid part is less important; i think that this can give us some information:

The bigger part of the merc engine power advantage in the hybrid part, Alonso was only 18 sec behind Rosberg at the end without SC

Ferrari has a good thermal engine, maybe more fuel hungry than merc and with undersized turbo but their problems are more in the hybrid part

Renault (RB) has less power in the thermal engine but has a good hybrid part, so good performance in Canada and bad performance in Austria

What do you think about ?

I think the Renault deficiencies were probably masked by Canada being very difficult to over take on, as well as the Red Bulls being in a DRS train for most of the race.
