Anybody else disappointed to find out that they hand out cheap plastic trophies?

It was only Silverstone's trophy that was cheep and plastic - trust Britain to go for a tatty sponsor logo made of plastic over the rather beautiful, historic trophy.

I liked Hamilton's reaction as it fell apart in his hands. Not much said in the press afterwards though!

Germany will have the exact same Santander trophy.

This used to be written in the sporting regulations (or an appendix thereof)

The trophies, which must be in the form of traditional cups, will be provided by the ASN and must show:
a) the FIA Formula 1 World Championship official logo
b) the official name of the event
c) the driver’s position.

I won't comment on the technical definition of a traditional cup (Charlie decides, as usual, unless he doesn't).

Interestingly, on a more thorough check, it is still there, in appendix 3...

And the sporting regulations also say:

Trophies must be of a design that is capable of being handled and transported without damage.

Hamilton is still going to pick up a penalty over this

Why would Lewis be penalized??? He didn't make or design the trophy.

Interestingly I then saw a photo in the paper of Hamilton with a proper trophy... Is the Santander one just for show with the more traditional cup being given to the driver later perhaps??

The RAC Silverstone cup is held by the winner for a year til the next race.
