PU component usage visualized

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

PU component usage visualized

Post

According to this chart from Reddit we could see penalties soon for Ferrari powered teams as well since they have started using the 5th component in quite a few cases (more than the other two):

The pattern from Mercedes looks like it follows a plan (much more vertical lines than the others), while Renault had more early failures but now seems to make the replacement components last longer.

Does anyone know how many of the components replaced so far are trashed and how many are potentially suitable to reinstall and avoid a grid penalty?

Those figures are not published, so the only way to know is when a team installs the n+1th component which we will then see as a penalty. And even then they could take a penalty in a race they know they will not win as a strategic choice to have a new component for later races.

From their comments in the interviews I had the feeling that Toro Rosso was doing this with their most recent penalty. They knew it was going to happen and decided to take it at a race they were not going to score high anyway.

I don't suppose there is any data on teams replacing components with previously used items?

Ferrari, for one, supposedly used new ICE for both Spa and Monza (their 4th and 5th). So each of these should last the season.

I would have though the turbo should be able to last longer than the ICE, potentially the whole season. I would think the same of the MGUK and MGUH.

The energy store and control electronics would be, I suspect, the components that will push the limit of allowed usage.

Interestingly if you look at the reports, the Energy Store is one of the least replaced components. The Control Electronics are critical for some and not so critical for others, so that seems to depend on packaging or circumstances.
