Lotus E23 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Would look even better if they shrink the logos a bit

Yup, first car in years that's actually poster material.

They have aligned the lower rear wishbones with the transmission arms and the track rod, it seems

Exposed drive shaft.

The rear wheel flip-up wings are minimalistic.

Come on, you can't say things like that.

Not very technical but sidepods look bulky as hell, then again that's how they roll. What's the secret of suspension Lopez was talking about in Amus, any guesses? Secret being it doesn't suck would be enough for me.

A lot of differences here!
- roll center
- exhaust
- engine cover
- fins

Nice comparison, however pictures depict the car at slightly different angles (check mirrors).
Perspective may trick some measures.
Nevertheless, the exhaust is indeed placed much higher

It's a really good comparison actually.

Real differences there all round. Completely different wheel hub winglets taking great advantage of that arched up top wishbone. So much tighter rear end and asymmetrical stuff gone. Extremely interesting.

Really beautiful looking car.

The view from the rear reminds me of last years mclaren (butterfly suspension aside)

No, I think it's what they're running. Still has winglets hub mounted at the base. They seem to be completely opening up that area to flow as much air under the wishbone and over diffuser. Maybe I'm wrong. Can someone with real knowledge please comment?

:)
Compressor airbox seems to be very different from the 2014 one, it looks longer as if the turbo was placed in the engine's V
The rollhoop-fed-cooler is just behind the intake plenum which looks huge.
No STR style oil coolers.
