The fault clearly lies with the engine regs, they have been stacked in favour of the team who gets their engine / pu right from day 1, as a result it is essentially impossible to catch up now for the other oem's.

The stupid token system, 1st year engine freeze and now 4 pu's per season is just strangling the sport imo.

And fair enuf too, the deck is stacked against them, at least in the v8 era there was nothing to stop anyone trying to catch up by implementing blown diffusers etc.

Indeed.

Potential suppliers will be put off, and competitors unsympathetic.

Would you agree that even in these regs, engine development is possible?
Would you also agree that, given the low amount of engine manufacturers we have, that these changes were a necessity for F1 to attract new manufacturers?

Honda are here because of it. Mercedes are staying because of it.

Just wondered why you think it impossible for other "oem's" to catch up....seen as the Honda is pumping out as much as the Merc at full chat, and Ferrari are making inroads on the deficit with more to come from them.

Even at red bulls most dominant, Seb was always driving the car to the limit to get his wins, Hamilton on the other hand is just cruising!

4 PU's is the same for everyone.

Tokens allow development.

But it don't just stop there. Within the rules, parts can be changed outside of the token system if it demonstrates either greater reliability, or more economical to produce.

Check their lap times, they drove the race slower than last year.

Like i said those rules entrench the advantage Mercedes have, Ferrari made some gains but are still more than 1 second behind. They have a better car than the Williams as proved in the race but Massa still out qualified both Ferraris due to the pu advantage.

Its not, thats the thing.
Red Bull got 3 options, find another supplier, put up, or shut up. Becoming the bovine whiners is not marketable.

If they need lessons in conduct, Ferrari are showing how.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner made his frustration with Renault clear once again after Daniel Ricciardo finished a lapped sixth in the Australian Grand Prix.
Problem is Renault :? Ferrari already much improved :) Honda battling :( but both working on problems and positive for future =D>

I honestly feel this relationship was broken well before the new regulations.

RBR were killing it, pretty much waltzing to Championships.
Even back then though, they regularly complained about the power deficit.

Renault never seemed to take umbrage because they were both on a winning streak, but I'm sure felt they didn't get the exposure they deserved during that period.

I'm one of those in the camp who feels Renault have massively dropped the ball this season, but surely Team moralle would have been effected when they were critisized last year, and more importantly the previous ones.
3 (opportunistic I must admit) wins against the Merc Juggernaut was nothing to sneeze at, yet RBR still spent a lot of time in the press blaming Renault.

Long story short, if I was a Renault employey working on the RBR engine, I would be a little tired of the criticism tbh.
