No they are not, since that has been declared illegal in the beginning of the season. The year was the ’93, the car a Williams Renault Fw15c, Coulthard the test driver. The CVT was a result of the collaboration with Van Doorne's Transmissie (VDT). I read the Racecar engineering about the Weismann Quick Shift principle, which Williams tried to use in the above car until Van Doorne came in. The "origin" of this system is in Costa Mesa, which is around 10 minutes away from where I live.
