RBR 2016 Power Unit

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

All this story is false!

Illien himself just counterdict rumors!

Ghosn on french media gave his blessing to make a new deal, which is signed and soon announced with red bull for 2016!

Lotus will be renault 100% for 2017, they could use mercedes engine still

the only doubt is renault will remove its brand for 2016, infiniti would be the engine supplier brand for 2016!

renault D spec has 6% potential ,

This power unit upgrade has been the result of a joint effort between Renault and the Red Bull appointed consultant Mario Illien.

The new power unit will not be run by STR as they will move to Ferrari power in 2016. The major issue was IP ownership (or I suspect payment for IP) between RBR and Renault. Essentially the base architecture of the ICE is jointly owned and development paths will essentially split moving forward with RBR running it under license with another name (possibly Infinity or another mfg.) and developing it in their in-house building 9 complex while Renault moves on with their own development.
The judge is not fully correct here. Motorsport.com confirms that the engine that will be used in Brazil is indeed 100% Renault. However in 2016 RedBull will use an Illien upgraded Renault engine and the token used before that point will not reset at zero but be carried over. That illien upgraded engine might not carry the Renault name though, maybe it will be an "RedBull Engine" or some other name.

That was "whose" not "what is".
Yes - there people with LinkedIn profiles that are from Milton Keynes or have worked in Milton Keynes and are or have worked for Ilmor. But none currently. You do also know that Milton Keynes, Northampton and Brixworth are all within 25 miles of each other so actually there is a bit of employment "churn" and commuting isn't unknown!!!

Also Building 9 in Bradbrook Drive won't have a transient Dyno to pass off engines or long run, or steady state to map PU with. so the ability to compete with Brixworth is highly unlikely..........

It does look as if there will be a Red Bull team on the grid, using the same as what TJ13 has said as a pretty much a Renault/Mechachrome/Red Bull 'Son of a Bitch' engine that is looking like this:

ICE: Renault (Block) / Mechachrome (Head)
TC: Outsourced (Honeywell?)
MGU-K: McLaren (Red Bull switched to them in 2013 with their Alternators i hear)
MGU-H: Red Bull
ES: Red Bull (Toshiba Batteries?)
CE: Red Bull (Red Bull Software)

However... There is a political issues, the issue is will this be considered a Homologated engine by the FIA and be granted just 4 PU Elements per driver for the season or will it be granted the same as Honda this year and the rest last year and be given 5 PU elements per year? Id give them 5 as its essentially a different PU. However, i will say this, id think it will be initially towards the Honda end and unreliable... BUT... Its Illien and Ilmor design that will eventually become vastly reliable and be quick, bloody quick. Ill give them a year and they will be on the pace, building to 2017 where the engine will be more or less on Mercedes/Ferrari terms and that leaves what Renault/Honda will be line in a year or so?

" 2008, when STR was a faster car than RBR because of the better Ferrari "
WTF. STR was faster in some races for many reasons but certainly not because of a "better" Ferrari... and the STR and RBR that year were different cars... and RBR stopped the development quite early to focus on 2009, and was experimenting some technical solutions that didn't work at the beginning...
In 2009 both cars were identical... where was STR with its 'better' engine?
Regardless of all that... do you think red bull will produce a better engine than the 2015 Ferrari unit in 2016?..i doubt it .. what about you?

No - they can't because they don't have any of the facilities necessary. ICE or ERS never mind the entire PU package.

The rumor is that renault have the best ers but a poor ice so if rbr were going to supply their own parts, surely they would be focusing on the ice?

TJ13 still reporting that the Ilmor heads they want to fit for '16 will add 40hp. Block will remain Renault-made.
