Honda charge deployment

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Honda charge deployment

Post

Does anyone know how the battery charge deployment settings work for the 2015 honda? The mp4-30 was recreated in the iracing sim last year with mclaren partnership. If they (iracing) got the systems right it works like that:
There are deployment settings from 1 to 14 where 1 is maximum deployment which uses all the available power any time you are at full throttle and 14 is no deployment. But here is the strange part - if you go with an intermediate setting it still deploys the charge all the time when you are at full throttle but at reduced power.
This strikes me as a very inefficient way to use the energy and I can't believe they did it this way. Right away I could think of better ways. For example there could be speed limit settings where it deploys only when the car is below a certain speed treshold. Or if the electronics are able to learn, the settings could be how much time before the end of the straight the deployment is turned off.
My logic is that the benefit from each bit of energy is proportional to the amount of time you spend on full throttle after its deployment. In other words - the most efficient way to use the energy is as far as possible from the end of the straight. So when you deploy at reduced rate you use part of the energy later on the straight instead of the beginning where it matters most.
In the sim when I use the maximum deployment, the charge is depleted quite quickly and heavy braking points only recover a few percent which are worth 1-2 secs of deployment but it's still about half a second per lap faster than an intermediate setting that keeps the used and recovered energy in balance (usually between 5 and 7 on averagely fast tracks).

I suppose the throttle map comes into play here in that there has to be a relationship between throttle position and power request.

Well they're not generating any charge at WOT so at least they got that right.
