The gold plating may reinforce the theory that the wing pylon crossing the exhaust is there to absorb heat and expand, making the wing change it's angle.
No idea why they would connect it to the engine cover, though. Is that even allowed after the regulations that forbid the F-Duct?

You use gold to reflect heat.
