At the ery least, if not wholly redesign the whole suspension, it would need to be modified to accommodate increased weight at the wheel/tire. It's not unreasonable to assume a few other tweaks were done at the same time.

but flying to Bahrain/Yas Marina isn't a great option either when almost all of the teams are from Europe.
These guys could afford to ship the cars anywhere in the world ... were they allowed

Yes, but the cost difference between Geoff and his MAN and a the same space on a 747 cargo is.. not small. Plus you can overnight parts to Spain in a Transit.

No, they can't, because you're adding a fixed cost increase to teams with wildly varying budgets, so you're hurting all the small teams much more than the large ones.

Surprised no one's mentioned this (unless it's in another thread):

Yeah, it looks like he's going off in the wrong way. Right rear puncture, overcorrection?

I think the car started to loose the rear, the driver tried to correct with the steering and then "snapped", typical.

Warm up lap I believe...

Something like 5c track temp.

Everything way out of spec.

But then the thing they were trying to test was improved tyre warm up in cold conditions - given they'll have to do standing starts after safety car periods in exactly these kind of cold, wet conditions.

Seems like there's still 'a ways' to go.

There is absolutely zero point testing tyres in these conditions. What were they thinking?? 5 degree track temperature is so far out of the operating window. For some of the 'best minds in motorsport' they seem to be entirely brainless.

Xcept this not the first lap and they did quite some running before that happened.
And there are things you still can test even if the temps are not in the window.
