Wow, Bottas and Hamilton not really giving a sh!t about each other when they were next to each other !
Cue the talk of mind games, friction, psychological advantages and so on.

Why on earth only 1.7 faster than 2016?? I expected 1.20s...
they have to drive on track maybe.
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

According to FIA document 18, Kimi took a new ES and CE before qualifying.
So does that mean a starting grid penalty?
No, I think only if they go over their 4 allowed.
This is just maybe a little odd, although probably just precautionary to ensure an event free qualifying.

Last season rosberg was 3.5 tenths behind in Australia.

Bott as just under 3 tenths behind.

Not as bad as people thought it would be? His gap may be more pronounced than Nicosia was though as now ferrari can jump in that gap!

That was exciting, we may have a season.

Hopefully the comparisons between Hamilton and Vettel pop up quickly, i want to dissect exactly where each team is making time.
Bottas better than some FP predictions, but not close enough to challenge.
Great effort by Grosjean, the gap between the top teams and the midfield is as big as ever.
Red Bull in no mans land.
Mclaren-Honda more or less where they were last season, so "good" recovery.

Cars weren't as fast as advertised here, Hamilton's 2016 Mercedes would line up 7th here(on SS), maybe the tarmac and the harder tires, need to wait for China to see.

Maybe the track isn't ruberd good enough as last year, since these tires last longer-term than last year's one's.

Maybe. But didnt it rain last year the day before QF?
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

Does 107% rule apply to Q1 fastest time or overall fastest time in qualy? If it applies to fastest time overall, Palmer shouldn't be allowed to start.
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

107% of the Q1 time i believe.
If it was against Q3 time, the weather could put everyone out from Q1 and Q2 if its wet in Q1 and drying up for Q3

Sure, but still on the same day , we had more rubber down than this year, it's just an opinion though.

That's gonna be the case on every race this year, it might be magnified on the Melbourne tarmac, but there's no getting away from the fact that these tires are gonna leave less rubber behind.

I believe it will be Merc 1-2 if Vettel does not jump Hamilton on the start.

I am looking forward to see how Bottas will act in case he is in position to fight Hamilton.

Still, that does put a question mark over Ferrari's reliability.

Bottas clearly on different aero setup as he's 2kmh faster by the start/finish mark but ends up 4kmh slower on the end of the straight
