First congrats to the winner, amazing performance!
Regarding my own performance, it's a little weird because my own simulations showed 1.43 44. It wouldn't have put me in the podium, but I have to check why such a difference. Specially with how tight thing are now!
Anyway, now the focus is on next race. With the level there's no other way than breaking the 7/1 efficiency!
Did you run "long"? The good thing about the discrepancy is that it would not have changed anything.

has anyone got their full results yet?
Yes, yours are missing. I forgot to send you an email about it. Somehow when copying the results yours went missing. No idea why. But as there is a holiday here tomorrow, you will have to wait until Wednesday. Sorry about this.

This is what kept me quite busy the last days. The weekend was for recovering!
You can find the presentation here:

Without words and animations it might be a bit useless.

Wow your renders are awesome! Thought they were real for a second

I can tell you, the people in the audience really liked our championship. Of coarse the renders were a big part of this, so thank you. I got many questions after I was done and later a few people said they would like to join and others asked if they can host their own competitions. Now we have to wait and see what really happens. Signing up is easy, reaching success against you guys is a bit harder.

I am sure MVRC can grow further.

From a commercial point of view, it would be great to involve engineering services providers (as CAEdevice), CFD specialist, motorsport teams and students (I think that MVRC can be as significant for training purposes as Formula Student).

From a technical point of view, thanks to MFlow we did big steps forward (2nd order schemes, rotating HX). Other possibile evolutions, in order to improve realism, could be:

- tyre model
- brakes cooling
- a sponsored cloud computing service
- better CAD quality (the intro class concept could be extended to a "constructors" challenge, providing cars not editable between the wheel axles)

I am working on a "3D showroom" I would like to propose next year (a car that can be rotated and studied but without seeing the underfloor, as it would happen if we would be in a real pitlane).

That's all good. enjoy your public holiday sounds like you have been extremely busy.

Do we have any more on next year? I remember reading that there were thoughts of moving away from the LMP style of car, is this still happening if so I think talk needs to start on what it will be and how the rules for it should be developed.

Just a couple of thoughts in the future:
using the same method that is used for the HX could we split this off into Cooling radiator and intercooler? I know this move away slightly from a CFD airflow challenge and more into the packaging side of things but does offer a challenge.

If we were to move away from an LMP style car other options could be open cockpit prototype cars, GT3'esq or formula cars. What other options are there?

Also, more of a question for Machin, is it possible to run the tracks backwards in your simulator? If we don't have more tracks to run the simulation on this might be an option if it's possible.

Just throwing some stuff out there to spark discussion. Should 2018 have its own thread?

This is possible... but it is not a very big job to create new tracks... the ideal way is to run a car of known performance on the track and then reverse-engineer the track data from the lap data... but it is possible to get sufficient information from Google Earth to create a good track model. When I was competing myself (Various UK Sprint / Hillclimb Championships) I used this technique a few times to create track models before I visited a venue to get fore-knowledge of cornering speeds, gear selection etc. before I did any actual running (track time in Hillclimb and Speed events is very limited). This allowed me to win my class at a venue I'd never been to before... and I know that wasn't down to driver skill! :?

The question really is whether it really adds anything to the challenge... more tracks looks cool, but I suspect the same few cars will win regardless of venue...?

Out of interest, how much do people actually use the on-line Virtual Stopwatch App (VIRTUAL STOPWATCH) in order to tailor their designs to each track?

I could not submit a car without spending some time for a check with VSW.

I run the VSW every single interaction. That's the deciding factor always.

A LOT! It is essential to achieve a competitive laptime.
...and I also have fun playing with the numbers :D

For each track I do a matrix with a sweep of Df/Dr levels to find what lap times to expect and what the trend is with Dr and Df variations. Around 280 runs. Then for each design iteration. Maybe 300-350 per race total.

Ah cool... I was wondering whether it might be worth writing a very short tutorial for newcomers...

I really like Andre's (LVDH) presentation... I think the CAESES interface looks neat... I really should get around to having a play with it...
