Hi I'm Reuben from Cape Town, South Africa. I'm busy with my Masters in Mechanical Engineering at UCT.

I've been building Mini Bajas (single seat off roaders powered by 10 hp lawnmower engines) for 3-4 years - that got me seriously interested in motorsport and from there F1. Debating about going into race car engineering full time once I finish my MSc - it may mean leaving SA and family behind.

Done quite a bit of work on transmission/acceleration modelling (my under grad project) and love looking at telemetry (when I can get my hands on it). When I got an F1 racing simulator for my PC I spent as much time analysing my telemetry as actually driving round a track!!!!

Allo Allo,
Most people call me "Roo" probably because I am from Oz and now living and working in The Oil Patch, Alberta Canada. My interest in F1 started with Stirling Moss and Jack Brabham and have been a follower ever
since. However as the technology has evolved I have become more interested in all forms of racing, except anything that is performed on a oval or in a straight line. I am a self taught[many years experience] race car mechanic and raced Hondas(Civic) and vintage for ever.
I am so pleased to hear how many of you aspiering engineers and
other young students appreciate the technology and design you will be able
to be a part of in the future!!!
GO RUTAN !!!

Hi, Im Alic and i live in Blackpool England.

I have been into F1 since 1999 and my favorite team are Williams, at the moment i am trying hard to watch historical F1 as much as possible, i find the technical progression amazing form the 20's right through to the cars we have today.

Im a technical director of a hydraulics company specialising in large industrial hydraulics (unfortunately - i would rather work on cars).

As far as motorsport goes i enjoy off road driving, watching F1 and a bit of rally because the driver input is impressive but the cars are not.

hello, im steven. i live in san luis obispo, california, USA. san luis is on the coast about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, for those who aren't familliar with it. I am going to school there and studying architecture, with an emphasis in sustainability, which has to do with energy conservation and environmental concerns in building design, and am also interested in philosophy.
i became interested in F1 in 02 through the WRC, which i have also followed for a few years, along with motorcycle racing. to be honest, i was more drawn to the technology than the racing itself, though both are exciting. i have respect for all teams, though not necesarily all people involved . . . . caughmaxcaugh. i most like seeing renault win though, and BAR too, mainly because i have a huge amount of respect for geoff willis. i am interested in anything worth knowing, and that is why i am so enthralled with F1 - i can find so much here, technologically speaking, that is worth knowing.

Hello, Ciwai here. I am a freelance designer/illustrator/matte painter. I attended Art center college of design, the leading transportation design college here in california. My background is mostly in aesthetics though I've always had an interest in the engineering side. Not anywhere near the depth of the experts here, so it is really an unearned privilege to be able to pique some of the brains here.

I've followed F1, and racing in general off and on since I was a kid. Earliest recollections are of vicariously following Rindt's post humous championship season in '69. I was greatly discouraged after ground effects were outlawed in the early 80's. Started follwing it again in earnest in '97. I am amazed how intense the competition has become with manufacturer involvement, and that there's still room for creativity despite the restrictions.

Hello there, just found this thread!!!!

I'm one of the portuguese members of the forum, I've a degree in mechanical engineering, like Monstro I've already been involved in Eco-Marathon competition (in 1997 and 1998, if I recall correctly).

Been a fan of F1 since 1982 (6 years old). My first idol was Gilles Villeneuve!!!!! Currently, I'm a fan of Renault... but I also like McLaren-Mercedes.
Best looking F1 car ever, for me: the Benetton B189 (I was a great fan of Benetton and Rory Byrne, back then).

Currently, I'm working for a division of a car manufacturer as a development technician.

Ciao!!!

I too have just found this thread!!

Hi,

My name is Ben, i'm 22 and i live in Lincoln, England. I spend 90% of my life at a large warehouse in Newark staring into CCTV monitors and wondering why the hell i gave up a promising career in IT to be a security guard, i still don't know why although i vaguely recollect money being invlolved. Anyway i love F1 obviously and i'm fascinated by the technical aspects involved. I'm starting an OU degree this year, its a mathematics course thats going towards an engineering degree of some kind. I'm really doing it because its what i'm interested in and it fascinates me rather than with a future career in mind, although it would be nice! If i ask nicely enough i hope all you really clever people who already have degrees will point me in the right direction when it comes to exam time !

This is a fantastic site Tomba it makes these 12hr shifts 80% more bareable! keep up the good work!

Hope i haven't bored you all by reviving this subject !

And here's some more help reviving the thread.

Hi, I'm Éowyn and I'm from Portugal. I probably couldn't tell one end of an engine from the other, but I do love F1 and am curious about its technical aspects and how a loose screw can affect the whole driving process.

Contrary to most people around here (judging by this thread) I do not and have never worked in technical areas. I am a Translator.

I've been watching F1 since 86 or 87 - my first F1 memory is watching Senna in that fabulous JPS-gold-and-black getting his first win at Estoril on TV. Used to be an avid fan of Senna's and have been looking for a worthy pilot to support ever since he died. I hate Michael Schumacher with a passion, but nowadays I can be civil about it  ... I think... Favourite team: MacLaren (ah, the good ole days!)

Currently rooting for Tiago Monteiro (go Portugal!!)

Biggest pet peeve in the last couple of years: Lack of overtaking in F1.
Pet peeve this season: If FIA wants slower (read safer) cars why the hell ban tyre changes instead of refuelling? (but maybe I'm just missing some point, here)

hey there..
Im Jasvinder Mangat from Malaysia.. Currently studying finance in australia. I have been following f1 religiously since 98 but my first recollection of f1 was in the 80's watchin it with my father and one race paticular was monaco gp and nelson piquet. I am a ferrari fan and naturally shumy's supporter. I would like to add i started supporting shumacher coz he was the underdog that year and been supporting him since. I also like jv. I like everything about f1 except those glory hunter supporters who support shumy just because he is winning. I know a few of them who was supporting hakinen and use to rub it in my face when mclaren won and now they seems to be the most loyal ferrari fan!!! My dream is after i graduate to work in europe for a few months so i can see as many races there.. I NEED to check out spa and monaco ..

I've been watching F1 races all my life (don't remember much my youngers days) except some year without tv covering in spain:(, my favourite drivers are Senna (who didn't like him) D.Hill and nowadays obviously Alonso i don't like FIA's regulation (Ecclestone and Mosley included) and i'm anti-ferrarist, william rules!

Hi,

My name is Rob and i'm studying Mechanical Engineering in Sydney, Australia. Just came across this forum whilst browsing the web for F1 brake designs.

Always enjoyed motorsport but have only been following Formula 1 since 2002 and claim to being a hardcore fan of it now. Favourite team would have to be Toyota as I have seen them grow from the very start. I can attribute them as being the reason as to why i started following the sport, after being a large fan of Toyota in the world rally scene, from which the pulled out of. And plus i own a Toyota so some bias there... :P

Favourite driver would have to be Raikkonen. I don't know of a driver who pushes their car as much to the limit as he does.

Actually since i joined this forum.
I'm intersted in aerodynamics and CFD and I'm trying to modle and simulate f1 parts for learing and tranning.
I'm ferrari fan and Toyota has joined the list :D
One of the most important benefit of
CAE Software is that we're approaching
The area of zero prototype Engineering

Gosh, I’m one of the oldest here (32), perhaps only Scarbs is older?!

Single and never getting married! 8)

Watching F1 since childhood. Clearly remember first races from early ‘80s. Like and research whole automotive history.

I’m racing maniac. The chair that I’m sitting on while writing this is actually Sparco racing seat I fixed to conventional rotating & elevating office chair - does wonders to your back if you add small cushion on the b.tt area. \:D/

Not able to eat several hours before the race. Nervous as all drivers and team members together. Month before the beginning of the season start having trouble sleeping and eating.

Grew up spending most of my time in my grandfather’s workshop surrounded by many other great craftsmen so I’m also very multipurpose craftsman too, from carpentry and mechanic to electrics and electronics - recently changed/soldered half dozen blown condensers on my PC mainboard – works excellent, was completely dead before. =D>

Always been a good drawer. Nowadays that is shown trough photo editing. Send me your photo if you dare

Never finished college (hated mathematics). Like practical things and dislike conservatives. Exploring and nosing around in constant search for the new things.

Occupied with aerodynamics including the other areas.

Occasionally doing some tuning on classic cars (Webber DCOE and similar stuff). Spend ages in garage and workshop.

HUGE Renault admirer and connoisseur for their inventiveness and creativeness. Like smooth drivers like Prost was.

HATE what was done with Ferrari and F1 in general since early-mid ‘90s.

HATE Schumacher and not considering him as a champion. HATE Bernie, Mossley, Montezemolo, Barrichello & Irvine too. Slowly and surely they are killing the sport.

Blame swift changes after 1993 season for Roland and Senna deaths. All the safety changes were paid by driver’s head or at least health… Gilles Villeneuve, Didier Pironi, Elio de Angelis, Martin Donnely, Roland Ratzenberger, Ayrton Senna. After every of those followed quick safety improvement “hand washing” reaction form Bernie and Mossley. Materials and technology were usually available before but they seam to like having fatality as a motive to increase security! They are never guilty… :!:

Consider many of the circuits outdated when it matters safety. Love Monaco, Spa and Monza (Hockenheim was great too but now sucks). Don’t like expanding of F1 to “exotic” countries simply for Bernie’s welfare.

Like strange concepts like those coming from Lotus (CC), Tyrell, Brabham, Williams, Ligier, Renault… =D>

Always hoping for comeback of turbo-era. :-({|=

Been marshaling and participated in organizing local races for a decade, later switched to web design for same local racing events. Quit that almost 4 yrs ago.

Following WRC and moto GP too but not as much as F1. Adore Paris-Dakar rally.

Free lancer, web design, photo editing...
