Honda is by far the worse engine on the grid. Thats clear to see. As for Techman, i have no idea he has another user name so i cant comment on that.

And Alonso is one of the big 3 at the team. Eric, Zak and Fernando. Each of those carry weight and can speak for the team in my opinion.

And when Vettel shouted out to Charlie last year, He, and Ferrari should have been punished.

So Alonso is McLaren now? What a bunch of haters in here.

Hamilton is Mercedes as well? Because without him Vettel could have won the title.

Alonso is McLaren's first driver so of course he's important. Name one driver of his quality that is free to sign?

Can somebody change the title of the 2018 topic to Alonso-Renault.

Don't temp me  .

I agree, can we please stay objective? Yes, McLaren did a lot of concessions to keep Alonso, and most probably Alonso treatening to leave if they didn't switched engines could have been decisive to switch. But at the end of the day, he is still a driver. Let us also remind ourselves this is still McLaren, playing with budgets in the league of Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull. Alonso got more influence out of his role than any other driver would have for McLaren, but ultimately it's still very relative towards the company he works for.

Eric and Zak are still above him. They just have a stake in Alonso, keeping an excellent driver for both commercial and performance oppertunities. Let's also be fair: it wouldn't have taken much to convince Zak and Eric to change engines. They probably were already looking around for better options when Alonso made his comments about staying if a better engine would be delivered.

I think that even stating that "Alonso pushed Mclaren to change PU supplier" is far fetched. People here tend to assume that he has way more power inside the team than he actually has.

They're about ready for the season ... oh ! Ah well, they've probably worked insanely hard to fix all the issues they've had. For the Honda fans, let's hope it's knowledge that means next year starts off rather better.

Yes. If you're looking for Alonso, he was not invited.

When you are a pilot you must take care of your relationships with the most important sports companies.
So when you retire from F1 you can aspire to continue in other categories. With the support of these companies.

Honda told Button to decide where he wants to run, in the US in Europe, in Asia. It is a clear example. I'm very happy for Vandoorne

Yes, it could be an option.
But neither Honda wants Alonso. And I think Alonso does not want to leave either.

The question is always the same. Was there a need to end the relationship like that?
This was completely unnecessary.

Is this speculation , your opinion, or official that he was not invited? Do you have an official link somewhere that says he was not invited by Honda on purpose?

Honda launches a list of guest pilots. You can see it here: http://www.honda.co.jp/enjoyhonda/hrtd/2017/driver/

With a message below that says. "Pilots may be subject to change without prior notice."

About Alonso, we will never know the truth.

Since, he is joining Toyota, it makes sense not to invite him or him not attending.

The reason Alonso is being “snubbed” is quite simple, no need for conspiracy theories

Honda are current F1 competitions and Alonso drives for a rival team, this is quite common for F1 such as when Mclaren celebrated their 50th anniversary and Hamilton was not invited despite being a previous Championsship winner for them

When he leaves F1 he will being invited to future celebrations like their 60th or 75th

EDIT...

Apologies, I just see Stoffel in the picture, I should have gone to spec savers
