Surely we've got to move into the 21st century and realise that the objectivication of women as a side show at a sporting event is alienating to 50% of the population. We don't want our daughters to grow up thinking that their participation in F1 is reduced to being mere trinkets and baubles to be ogled at. Hopefully, they will be inspired to be the engineers and racers in the future. On a far more personal level it will make my enjoyment of the sport that much greater as I won't have my wife criticising me for watching a sport that has such a backwards attitude towards women. I'm sorry that the women who did the job will lose out on that weekend work but I would hasten to add that this work is only available to them because they happen to be pretty. The vast majority of women would never have the chance to do this work. We should be moving away from a society that values aesthetics above all else rather than fighting to keep it that way...

this explanation is something that a clueless (in biology and psychology mostly) politician would say to split the masses in order to govern them more easily

if your kids are influenced by such a tiny portion of that entertainment show in a manner you're suggesting, well, you need to take a good look at your parenting practices

I'm not so sure where they are going with this. I liked the grid girls for the obvious reason, they were pretty. I don't get what's wrong with that.

I'm sorry but what is wrong with wanting to be a grid girl? There are plenty of role models for Women in the world, probably half the worlds leaders are female. I can understand why F1 feels the need to move away from having grid girls, but its wrong in life to vilify women for wanting to do such a job. We live in world where everyone should have free choice to do what they want, not what others tell them they should or shouldn't do.

Personally I think they should have just introduced grid men too, but what this decision probably comes down to is 'saving money', like everything else in 'the now'

My kids certainly won't grow up looking at only emulating what they see women doing. Thats just dumb, my girls (5 & 7) already want to be an astronaut and a golfer 2 things you associate with men. And both of them will watch and see a lot of F1 and neither have ever said to me they want to be grid girls.

As for comments of latex playmates, I thought that generally the grid girls are dressed well.
