Williams FW41 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It is strange that by adopting Mercedes cape, they have not opted to make the nose 'slimmer' as the mandatory cross-sectional area is enlarged with an addition of a cape. Maybe this links with their problems to pass the crash-test (they are the last team to pass it, so maybe they reverted back to step 0 with default nose).

Also Ferrari rear wing support (double). Curious how this cars go's. It's always better to copy good stuff then to make something that is failing...
Everybody is a Ferrari fan.

Interestingly enough, no one is showing cards regarding on HALO fairings. But its only launch so I guess it's not worth showing

Here’s hoping that Williams have actually delivered an aero package and not just a car decent in straight lines. I have been super disappointed with them in 2015-2017.

This looks, at first glance, better.

The big question is how much aero improvement will the others bring?

Will follow Williams closely during testing

Honestly I'm not impressed. Looks a copy-cat of Merc-Ferrari. Same concepts we've seen in 2017, imagine what Merc, Ferrari, RedBull must have made. They'll be behind.

And also, something tells me Force India have something up their sleeves. Unusually secretive.

Mercedes and late season Williams had that, it's just much longer now.

I had at least hoped that the Halo would be a bit more integrated but so far, even without fairings, the Halo still looks like it was plucked on and not crafted into the car as I at least expected they would be. Well done to the FIA I guess? Hopefully they look better on the front running cars.

Looks like in addition to the front and rear wings/diffuser, the teams have spent all winter developing the "mid-wing", or everything aft of the nose up to the side pod end plates.
