Alonso fastest in SPA for FP1

...but just as in F1 alot can and will change from FP1 to Race.
I do hope its a good race for Alonso this weekend.

-Where is Jenson in the time sheets?
-Is it true that the BMW is just the GT3 car with a waiver from ACO to compete in GTE?

This BMW is technically a GT2 car like all the others, except none of them are actually GT2 cars at this point. All the manufacturers have special waivers for their vehicle.

Perhaps I got confused with the Z4 BMW, which I think did receive the waiver to use a GT3 car as GTE. Especially considering that the GT3 is an M6 and the GTE is an M8.

I wish BMW would just have an actual Grand Tourer to compete for GT3 and GTE, as opposed to their gigantic sedans.

I´m a bit surprised about the lap time difference around Spa when compared to F1. 1:58.3 for LMP1 (FP1) when F1 did 1:45.5 (FP1 too). I know they´re different philosophies, but didn´t know the difference is so big, specially when taking into account the dramatic drag difference between the two categories. Power is similar, so obvioulsy the difference comes from DF

Obviously LMP1 cars don´t have a front wing comparable to F1 cars. What about the floor? It is that different too?

As you may guess, this is my first time watching WEC. I´m eager to see Alonso winning something, almost as much as himself :mrgreen:

I'm not sure if downforce is so much lower. they have front diffusers, a bigger floor area and wider rear wings, not to mention lower turbulence from the covered wheels.
I guess that weight and their rock hard tyres are a bigger part of that difference.


On another subject: Does it make sense to think that Dieselgate killed LMP1-H?
I mean, Dieselgate forced Audi out, and the lack of competition may have forced Porsche out, only leaving Toyota to try and not become the biggest joke in history for losing Le Mans while competing pretty much by themselves.

Last year's pole was 54.0 (combined lap time) by Porsche, i believe Toyota has a lot in store still.

Peak power is about the same, but F1 is at or near this peak for a lot longer, rules are made so that a 650 hp non hybrid car can compete with the hybrids.
Not quite true but that's what the rules are suppoused to do.

Floor is flat and also quite high(stepped?) like F1, don't know which is higher honestly, visually appears to be WEC.
Most teams don't go for the coke bottle shape, usually they just cover the rear tire, the Toyota tries to have a bit of both.
