Mercedes AMG F1 W09 EQ Power+

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

How are they stuck on top of the sidepod? Ductape?
Flexseal so they are able to keep water out if the car goes into the harbor at Monaco.

I'd think they'd take bolts from the underside of the chassis or they are hollow and a bolt passes through them into threads on the chassis. I have no clue for sure, though.

Thanks for that. Maybe they are riveted in place and then flexseal over the sealing edge?

@Maritimer: seems a good suggestion as well.

Interesting that they choose to go down this route. The past couple of seasons featured a move away from VGs. Maybe the VGs are a more draggy solution, but given the circuit it might be beneficial for Monaco as they reduce lift on top of the sidepod.

Could the vortex they generate run down the bodywork and be used to help seal the diffuser? Like the old coanda exhausts. They'd want to follow the sidepod contours i would imagine.

I was quite surprised as well since the field has moved away from them sans Mclaren. Maybe it's a one-off as you suggest for Monaco.

I imagine inverse bolts.

i think the vortex generators are glued on. They don't expeirence a lot of load.
The paper tells him where exactly to glue them.

New rear bodywork (top is new; less bodywork around rear suspension)? Chimney engine cover bolted on, as well.

I agree that they must be glued on, using bolts etc seems like a very heavy solution.

Small bodywork components such as strakes and VGs are usually bonded on with adhesives.
