Andre and I have talked about Pikes Peak actually... I'm definitely keen... I drove up the course for real a few years back (slowly, haha!); it is awesome!

My thoughts are that we should try and tie in the MVRC calendar to real Motorsport events; it could be a means to drum up a little extra interest... But that would mean missing Pikes Peak this year...

I agree, but I wonder what kind of track would it be (high df or efficiency)?

As far as I know it is very high df course. Lap record at Monaco GP is over 160kph, while Pikes Peak avg speed for record run is below 150kph. Lot of hairpin turns and in general more than 20 turns over 90deg. Especially Devil's Playground looks like very slow section with few hairpins one after another with short straight sections in between.

I've not modelled the course, but I definitely agree; high downforce.... Actually it could make an interesting one-off race; the air density is quite a bit lower at the top, which could be a a good challenge to you designers....

Thanks Machin and Schwepes.

About MVRC2018: I run a couple of similation on my old car. Not very much improvement, but now I understand the reason of some points of downforce I gained with the B version. Looks promising for the future.

... but now I really can't wait for the new rulebook... I miss the competition :)

I'm starting from scratch, abandoned the Rhino 3D model and stated anew with fusion 360. Will run my first simulation tomorrow I guess.

just started to run some simulations again and using the latest version of Mantium Flow 2017.12 I am only getting the ISO data images in the post-processing.. anyone else experiencing the same?

I confirm: it happens with the latest release (in order to fix something else that I don't remember).

Had some ambitious plans to start earlier, but the job change made it harder than expected. Nevertheless I'm about to start the 2018 car design this weekend...

Yep, but you can still visualize everything manually in Paraview.

I was wondering if anyone tried to install OpenFOAM without a ported version, just using the bash on Ubuntu in Win10.

I use Osx/docker. Is faster than the bluecfd version on the sane machine. Tried native ubuntu but it was on an external drive and any possible processing gain vanished on i/o.

How much faster? more or less

One simulation took 14h42’ on win and 12h45 on osx. Same macbook, same sdd, enough ram both times.
