Hard to say bright things about Mclaren. I believe they will see better days and success but the suffer does not seem to be coming to an end. It hurts even more being a Fernando fan.

Alonso lost a lot of time behind that slow Sauber. Also what caused the new DNF?

I don't understand why Vandoorne is so slow.

Actually Alonso's race pace on the SS was faster than the Renault. He really got held up behind the Sauber in the first stint.

The top speed problem is aparently fundamental in different area than the aero. When Alonso was in slipstream of Leclerc, with opened DRS and the engine revving to its maximum and jet the speed was not good enough to surpass the Sauber without DRS. This is not drag, aparently the gear ratio is off, or something mechanically.

Exhaust problem. They had to stop the car or else it would have blown the engine cover or something.

Im afraid with this DNF there is a chance we lose forever that 4th place.

Still I really want to see the positives of this year. We might be able to finish up 4th or 5th which is a step up from all those 3 years so far.

If McLaren finishes 5th in constructors, in front of Force India, that would be a success, with this car.

We probably will. Renault have made some serious gains this season. Renault also have better engine integration because it's their own engine. Truthfully, it's going to be extremely tough to beat Renault from here unless McLaren seriously sort out their suspension or something.

I really want to see the positives of this season. We are now 5th and hopefully we can finish from 4th to 5th and we have an engine that is faster and way more reliable.

However being 4th or 5th in the Constructors is unacceptable for a team of that magnitude. In the past Mclaren had suffered with similar performances but periods of dominances followed. I hope that their time will come soon.

Disclaimer: As a McLaren fan I am loathe to fan the flames of the McLaren/Honda split. Oh, and today my wife declared me a Alonso fanboi. . .

WTF is wrong with McLaren? It seems like nothing goes their way. Perhaps they should start doing the opposite.

McLaren needs better staff, it’s as simple as that. How many chances do they get?

If Mclaren needs better staff what do you people propose? Should they just bring back Andrian Newey or try and get Ross Brawn and give him the keys to build the team?
